Hi all, i have started to use dvd2svcd and have had success with backing up dvds, I now want to have a go at some xvid conversion to svcd.
Heres what Ive done before, without using dvd2svcd,
all the xvids I have are 23.976fps, so I would extract the audio, convert the video to 25fps in Vdub, and then stretch the audio to the same length in goldwave. then merge back together and I have a perfect 25 fps xvid. I'd then convert to svcd in TMpgnc. If I didnt do this the playback is really jerky.
What I need to know, as I cant seem to find out, is there a function within dvd2svcd that will perform this conversion. Or combat the problem of the jerky playback.
Ps not sure if it matters but my dvd player supports both 25 and 29.9 fps svcds.
Many thanks in advance.!:D

If you check NTSC2PAL in the Conversion tab it will convert (and reconvert audio automatically) to 25FPS.
However, try using DVD2SVCD to create an NTSC disc from these files (ie box unchecked) and try them on your player. DVD2SVCD will convert from 23.976 to 29.97 fps and all mine play back fine. As long as your player and TV are happy with the NTSC format there should be no problem. Try both ways, see which works best for you.

Really? Must be a Bug or something else. 23.976 is a valid Framerate for NTSC progressive on SVCD and DVD.

Yeah, in trying to keep it simple I phrased that rather badly. The output is of course 23.976fps with pulldown activated to get 10 output fields from 4 frames. Hence it plays back at 29.97 for NTSC TV.
What I'm getting at is I think shorn was setting up TMPGEnc incorrectly for that type of input hence the jerky playback. If he lets DVD2SVCD automate the encoding and run Pulldown.exe he should not get jerky playback. I have never had to adjust film speed to get good playback, so I advised him to try it and see. If it doesn't do the trick, PAL speedup is available in DVD2SVCD ar the touch of a button.

@Nick, AFAIK, Pulldown.exe is only needed when using CEE. TMPGEnc supports pulldown at encoding time and DVD2SVCD uses that.
Kika's idea of progressive SVCD is interesting though. I'll check if my player supports it. @Kika, Would we save some space, time or something by avoiding the pulldown flags?

Me neither. I let DVD2SVCD do all the magic, and it generally works out quite fine :)

you can end up with tmpgenc encodes w/out pulldown. if you dont use the film template and manually set fps the pulldown flag wont be checked. and the resulting svcd will play jerky on most settops. (same as cce if you never do pulldown.exe)
years ago when i used tmpgenc and was a ripping newb i screwed up a few backups that way

In TMPGEnc, two settings are important:
Setting -> Video
Encode mode: 3:2 pulldown when playback
Framerate: 23.976 fps (internally 29.97 fps)
I never had any problems with these settings.

You mean with DVD2SVCD? When I used TMPGEnc, DVD2SVCD did always the settings for me. I never had to select a template or tweak it beyond what DVD2SVCD allowed. Can you confirm that?

ok if you want to convert your 23.976 AVI to 25 SVCD, just
add the following to your script:
AssumeFPS(25)
amd convert your sound using BeSweet using the following command line:
"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\BeSweet\BeSweet.exe" -core( -input "e:\ripping\audio1.wav" -output "e:\ripping\audio2.wav" -2ch ) -ota( -r 23976 25000 )

nah.. this is before i even heard of dvd2svcd (prolly before it existed *shrug*)
i would imagine dvd2svcd would set all that stuff correctly and a new person probably wouldnt tinker with it. i was just stateing it is possible w/tmpgenc
