I've just followed the Gordian Knot guide to convert a DVD to DiVX. The only step I did differently was use SmartRipper instead of Robot4rip to rip. I manually opened the file in DVD2AVI and created a project. Gordian Knot encodes it just fine, however, there is no audio. I tried opening the encoding the VOB files with FlaskMPEG and the audio comes out just fine.

I know it's probably something I forgot or something stupid on my part, but can anyone help me troubleshoot?

most likely you forgot to hit 'demux all audio tracks' in the DVD2AVI audio properties...

That would be true if there are no audio files (.ac3, for example) in the working folder. But if you have demuxed audio files, and have no audio, then another common first timer problem is when about ready to start the encoding job, you forget to switch tabs from the DivX tab to the Audio 1 tab to select the demuxed audio file.

I know, because I made that mistake on my first encoding with Gknot. And I was so sure I'd followed every step in the guide perfectly.

Hi-

Probably. :)

jggimi's and killingspree's answers will send you on your way, most likely. If you're not sure whether or not the audio made it into the .avi, then open the movie in GSpot (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot221.exe), and it will tell you. It'll also tell you if you have the filters necessary to play it. And if the audio's in there, and it still doesn't play, then most likely it's the AC3, and all you need is the AC3 Filter.
