View Full Version : hip.dll problem

Every time I encode from mp3 to ac3. After it's done, I get an error message: "Besweet caused an error in hip.dll..." instead of closing.
In the DOS window I get: "stream error : sync found after 127 bytes".
The problem bothers me then I do batch encoding (I need to manually close the window after every file so the next file could start encoding). this happens both in v1.4 & in v1.5.

The DOS window looks like that:

BeSweet v1.5b23 by DSPguru.

Using hip.dll v1.19 by Myers Carpenter <myers@users.sf.net>
Using Shibatch.dll v0.24 by Naoki Shibata & DSPguru (shibatch.sourceforge.net).
Using AC3enc.dll v0.1 by Gerard Lantau & Dg (http://ffmpeg.org).

looks like your file has id3 that somehow makes problems for hip.
try removing this id3tag with winamp or whatever and try again.

on a different note,
1. why are you trying to transcode mp3 to extremly-low-quality ac3 (56kbps, 22.05khz) ?
2. the ac3 standard only supports 32khz, 44.1khz, and 48khz.
you cannot encode 22.05khz ac3 streams.

Isn't it another way? It's a lot of work to remove tags from 50-60 files before encoding.
Is there a way to rip CDs to ac3 using besweet?

I encoded to 56k as a one time test - the result was very good.

there are many tools for mass tags removal, one option is this one (http://www.saunalahti.fi/~cse/files/Tag.zip).

there iZ a way to use BeSweet as a cd-ripper, but it requires the replacement of cdfs.vxd on your computer, and only possible under win9x o/s.

anyway,
i think you should be more co-operative and tell us more about your final goal.

1. did you use my advice ? did it help avoiding the bug ?
please, always, post logfiles.

2. what are you trying to do ? rip cd audio onto 2.0 ac3 ?
you must have a really really good reason to do so, since ac3 is the worse choice for stereo compression. better options are aac,mp2,mp3,ogg vorbis.

3. what are you doing ? ripping cd-audio to mp3 and then transcoding to ac3 ?
you should know that every transcoding process degrades the audio quality, and that it would be better to rip the cd audio into waves, and then transcode the waves directly to ac3.

4. what's behind your transcoding process ? are you testing stuff ? or actually archiving music ?
if you read the BeSweet FAQ, you surely noticed that i'm NOT recommending to use ac3enc for encoding ac3 for other purposes rather than tests.

5. why are you downsampling the audio to 22.05khz ?
again, beware that this is not supported by the ac3 spec.

my speculative suggestion for you would be to encode your cd audio into MP4 as AAC-HE which is somewhat alike 22.05khz, but have better bandwidth, and bitrate is <= 56kbps.

1. I used your advice and it worked.

I installed the program in order to rip a DVD-Audio I had to 448kps 5.1 ch ac3 files. In my tries I faced the following problems:
(I was too busy to search for solutions, but if anyone wants to help I would appreciate it, I'm very new to the process.)
1) There are 3 different VOB files which contains the audio data (every one is full length), then I tried ripping any one of them separately the result was poor.
2) I don't know how to split the file (will besplit help?).

Everything else I did was to test how Besweet works.

For my archiving I'm looking for a fast AAC ripper. The fastest one that I found so far was Winamp 5 beta 2, with a speed of 2X and it only encodes to a mpeg-2 AAC.
I can't install iTunes because I only have Win ME.

MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AAC differs only in header.i.e both are the same in play back and encoding, the header put is only different.
