:D The P4 Extreme Edition is for the elite.

The +/-$1000.00 price tag is going to be a major problem for most members here I'm sure, but if you are lucky enough to get one it's DivX encoding capabilities are awesome. Best part is it is compatible with the Intel 865/875 motherboards.
The AMD Athlon64 might be good for gaming but when it comes to raw encoding power the P4 EE is THE one!

BTW the highest 3DMark2001 score in the world at the moment is with one of these overclocked to a stagering 4.469 Ghz!

Awhile back some guys were taking 2.8ghz Xeons up to 3.33ghz. I think this all really shows the Xeon has always been the test-bed so to speak of the P4 family. They've always been nearly identical processors, with Hyperthreading being tested on the Xeon first, then enabled on the P4, etc.

The P4 extreme is a waste of money if you're buying it primarily to encode stuff with. The on-board cache size isn't often the limiting step during the encoding process. This is clever marketing for Intel, as most people are never quite sure what processes are die-cache dependent, and what aren't. It certainly used to be a big deal in "ye old days", but isn't so much anymore, but that carries through with a lot of geeks. Not only that, but Intel needed a market release to match AMD's 64-bit line.
