rmvb to divx/xvid

hi dudes,

just bought one of these new dvd-divx players so i can enjoy all movies on the tv and boummm! now many movies are in rmvb format.
can somebody help me how to convert rmvb to xvid or divx? do i loose a lot of quality? are there any freebies out for this conversion???

ok, its your first post, but as celtic_druid wrote plz read and follow our rules. you will not find any help for movies you didn't produce as backup for dvds you own yourself
also note that before starting a new post, always use the search function and read the guides on the mainpage: you can be sure that all these basic questions, like you asked, have been answered already a thousand times on this board
