compaact! (http://www.compaact.com/aacPage.php?SPRACHE=UK&PAGE=home)

but this AAC-Encoder has some disadvantages... as for example:

- sorry guys, I'm too lazy to translate german->english 'cause I'm @ work at the moment, so here is a german link... maybe bond is willing to translate ;)

Well ,I downloaded the trial version and tested it.It has some limitations.First it is not free.Second it can handle inputs *.wav, *.au, *.snd and *.aiff only.So we cannot diretly transcode mp3/ac3 to AAC.It has output formats *.AAC and *.mp4.

The output profiles are LC and Main.( no HE-AAC).You can add several WAVs/Aiffs to convert to multichannel aac,and also map different channels from different input files.

Thus if you have multichannel wavs/aiffs then you can directly convert to aac in CBR/VBR mode.I think this utiltiy is more suited for creating stereo files than multichannel ones.If it had direct mp3/ac3 to aac encoding option it would have been better.

Not bad. If dicas adds command line support and HE profile, this could be a strong AAC encoder. Haven't done any quality testing yet, I'd be interested to see how it does against psytel, quicktime, nero, etc.

Personally I'd still like to see a 'lame' of AAC, (open-source and best quality), but it seems to be a pretty heavily patented technology.
