View Full Version : DVD read error - what are my options

DVD plays fine in standalone (must ignore read errors).

DVD Shrink or DVDDecrypter get hung at a certain point. Even tried options in DVDDecrypter like fast skip error.

This is a personal DVD I made early on before I knew about the dependability of certain brands. This is one of those cheap Princos that must have had certain blocks on the disk go bad.

DVD is clean with no scratches - pretty much in pristine condition.

What are my options and is there any program to back it up to hard drive?

My last option is to recapture it from DVD Standalone, but that means reencoding and losing quality.

Hi jfcarbel,

You can try DVDFab at http://www.dvdfab.com. It can skip the reading error.

Thanks I will give it a try and report back. Can I use the old free version or do I need the new pay version for this skip error feature?

I am also going to try DVD.X.Rescue from 321-Studios since they have a 90 day money back guarantee.

which mode have you tried ripping in and have you tried ISO mode?

have you tried Smartripper 2.41?

do you have any other DVDROM's? I had a faulty disc before that just wouldn't read at the same point all the time and yet I managed to get it to read using another DVDROM

there's also other rippers you could try but I can't remember them off hand

if it's a DVD you have already made I'll assume it isn't encrypted so can you not just copy it using Windows Explorer? as it shouldn't even need ripping

can you not use a burning software to create an image on your Hard Drive?

Hi jfcarbel,

Old DVDFab doesn't have such feature, but you can try the FREE version of DVDFab Lite at http://www.dvdfab.com/download.htm to see the result.
