View Full Version : Auto DVD Authoring?

Hey all. I'm using an mpeg-2 video capture codec with my ATI AIW card to record various programs from TV for later viewing. This whole thing is setup with a program guide on my HTPC and I use only a remote to control it. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a command line-based software (or software that can use a command line) that can author a specific file passed to it so that I can burn it to DVD for use in stand-alone DVD players? I'm not looking for anything fancy, menus or anything like that. Just the ability to take a DVD-Video compliant mpeg-2 file and make it into a VIDEO_TS with minimal user interaction.
Thanks.

you'll probably wont find one that will do it currently, but you might be able to ask an company (especially a small company, or 1 man operation) to add commandline support for you.

The easiest way to do it is what I do, use TMPGENC DVD Author program with an ATI-AIW recorded DVD compliant MPEG2 file with MP2 audio. You can easily edit out commercial breaks too and get chapter settings automatically for each program segment. You can fit multiple titles, I get about 3 hour-long programs on one DVD with the bitrate settings I've been using. There is no automatic way to do it, but this is the easiest and most versatile method I've found.

I agree with DonBerg Just to add one thing. If you want to put more on a disc, use ReJig on it first. It can significantly reduce the file size, with no loss of clarity. Should be able to fit 6 episode of CSI on a dvd easily.
