Howdy all
I had a look at Recode yesterday and saw that you could remove extras and menus etc and insert a picture instead. Really nice feature I thought. I normally use DVD2DVDR with CCE and wonder if I could use this feature from Recode and then run the files thrue DVD2DVDR.
What I want to try is to keep the menu and movie from a dvd using Recode. Then run DVD2DVDR on the main movie.
How would I do that? Is it possible?

I am quiet a newbee at this area so I am also intrested in the same question, not about the Recode part but how to use CCE for the main movie and still add the menus. Since I not that good at using dvd2avi and CCE I used dvd2dvdr to create the movie with an approrpiate size so that the menus, sound and pictur fits a disk. I tried using the created m2v-file and then using ifoedit to remux it in with the rest of the original. Everything seems fine in the end, menus and subpicturs are there, BUT THE FILM IS A BIT JUMPY AND THERE IS AN AUDIO SYNC PROBLEM (You can read about it at the forum). There are also some guides how to do it BUT I havent got the time yet. CCE and Ifoedit dont seems to like each other :-( BUT then again, DVD2DVDR and dvd2dvd (aka dvd2svcd) do this job so well so there should be an easy solution.

@JediSthlm: I have never done this, but theoretically you can run your DVD through Recode, set the compression to 0% (here I'm guessing.. I know it can be done in Recode's "cousin" DVDShrink), and just replace the playback items you don't want with a "this item has been removed" screen. Then you run the output through dvd2dvd-r or whatever other program you like.
@JvD: CCE file remuxing in IfoEdit is a no go and will always remain so. Why? Read this: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63880

Thanx for the answer, IŽll have to try this out and see if it works. If anyone else have clues, let us know.

Yes. In Recode, you will need to uncheck the box to "Fit to Disc" so that Recode doesn't constantly adjust sizes on you.
Then you go through and "disable" the titles you do not want. (The simpler the image, the smaller the resulting replaced VOB file will be.)
Then set the remaining titles (the ones you are keeping) to 100%. That will keep them from being compressed at all. Also make sure that all audio tracks and subtitles you want are selected for the movie as well.
Click the Burn button and then select a folder on the hard drive to save the output to. You will end up with VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folders just like on a regular DVD and you can process them however you like from there.

If you actually wanted to go through the extra trouble, sure, you could run it through Recode and get rid of unwanted streams...then CCE it. You may want to let Recode process it, just for giggles, and see if it's worth the hassle. Recode and Shrink are quite good at what they do, and you may well decide that any extra quality you achieve with CCE just isn't worth it. It's all subjective, sure; but I'm not tying up my computer for days trying to back up a movie, anymore (Been there, done that!). My copies look very clean using DVD Shrink -- even if viewed on an HDTV. Recode yeilds very similiar results, so you just may be happy with what you get, without investing tons of time making a DVD that may -- or may not -- work properly. Now I only use my CCE for compressing DV footage!

I agree. I've seen some movies that were done with 5 pass encoding in CCE and they didn't look much better (or any different) than what I got from using DVDShrink.
Of course, it also depends on the source movie. If the DVD has a great transfer and high bitrate, then you're more likely to get a better result from DVDShrink or Recode than if they didn't allocate much space to the movie in the first place.
Also, if its a longer movie, CCE still definitely seems to have the advantage. But I've been very pleased with how my DVDShrunk and Recoded movies look on my 46" widescreen HDTV.

It seems like there would be no idea to use cce (dvd2dvdr) if I read your comments. Also, I had a look at dvd2dvdr at it seems that you can change the output size so I do not think that it even would be possible. I had a look at dvd2dvd at it seems to have that option. IŽll try and see if there will be any differences between the programs. Thanx all for repying,

I like recode
I like that I can reduce the quality of extras a lot
and keep the movie at high quality.
