I've been trying to make a backup of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom for about 6 days now. I've figured how to used Ifoedit. However, I havn't been able to recompress the video with CCE succesfully yet. When played back it always has a stutering problem.

here are the settings according to bitrateviewer
Num. of picture read: 31
Stream type: MPEG-2 MP@ML VBR
Resolution: 720*480
Aspect ratio: 16:9 Generic
Framerate: 29.97
Nom. bitrate: 9800000 Bit/Sec
VBV buffer size: 112
Constrained param. flag: No
Chroma format: 4:2:0
DCT precision: 10
Pic. structure: Frame
Field topfirst: Yes
DCT type: Field
Quantscale: Linear
Scan type: ZigZag
Frame type: Progressive

Im thinking the setting i would want to use are as followed:

Dvd2avi -> don't force frame

cce ->
add sequence end code
Upper field first
linear quantizer scale
Zigzag scanning order
DVD compliant
time code to 00:00:00:00
DAR to 16:9
intra Dc to auto
(I'm also using chaptor extractor to put in the frame numbers for the chaptors)

pulldown -> i don't know if this is needed or not

ifoedit -> remux video

Much thanks for any suggestions.

Hi-

Is there any particular reason why you're not feeding the encoder 23.976fps, by either Force Filming in DVD2AVI, or IVTCing in AviSynth? And then running Pulldown afterwards? Only then will it be progressive (unless you do something stupid, like deinterlace).

One of the things that is frustrating is Ifoedit. I have tried multiple methods to recompress the video. When i view the files in Windvd they look fine, however when i try to re-mux them in ifoedit they never come out correct. I tried using the multiplex function in Tmpgenc to combine the video and the audio file and it played backed perfectly. Of, course tmpgenc doesn't put the video into a dvd format.

Does the fix pts values in Ifoedit matter? (In one of doom9 guides it said that this didn't work) Any ideas would be appreciated.

I followed your suggestion of force film in dvd2avi. I also didn't put the chaptor frame numbers into the cce file. However, after muxing the video in ifoedit, the video only plays good for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds after that. After that, the video plays jerky but the audio continues to play fine.

Any ideas why the video would work fine for awhile and then become jerky? I looked throught the rest of the video and it appeared to be jerky the rest of the way.

maybe i should use tmpgenc?

Hi-

Sorry, don't know anything about IFOEdit or DVD creation, and just enough about CCE to be dangerous. You got an .mpv file out of CCE, right? When you play it, does it play smoothly? If so, then it may be a muxing or IFOEdit issue, and you might have to look elsewhere for the answer.

This may be related, I don't know. That bitrate you chose; isn't that supposed to be for audio plus video together? That is, did you perhaps exceed the DVD specs for total bitrate? It may be working fine for 2 and a half minutes because the opening scenes are relatively static, and don't use that much bitrate. But as soon as you have a more complex scene, maybe you go over the limit. Just a guess.

I'll see if I can get someone more knowledgeable involved.

Why not use DVD2SVCD?

Your error is the
Upper field setting ON.

U mustn't use this in streams that r TFF (top field first). It produces a stuttering in image when there is a horizontal panning of the camera.

I had some threads going over this problem and explaining the ins and out of why this is happening, but I am not at the pc that keeps the interesting threads link so I can't provide one. U can find it ofcourse, its in this forum (CCE).

I was under the impression that upper field matters only when proggressive is turned off.

I think it is an issue with Ifoedit muxing algorithms.

1. When i try to remux the video back together in Ifoedit
-> it has a stutering problem

2. When i try to mux the video in ifoedit using the cell times from the original movie.
-> it almost worked this way. However after ever chapter it would play fine for 3 or 4 seconds then would have the same stutering problem.

3. When i tried muxing the video without using any of the cell times from the original movie.
->I get a video that seems to play fine ( i only watched the first 5 minutes) however i can't fast forward obviously.

No, this is a wrong impression.

TFF on should be used only with material that r encoded with BFF such as all the dv streams from a digital camera.

Thanks for the repplys,

On my first post i gave the wrong information. I actually recorded with Upper field first off. I played around a lot with this option and it didn't seem to matter.

I'm going to try to use ChapterXtractor to force the key frames to the correct positions. Maybe that will help.

I backed up the whole trilogy this way. (Movie Only)
1) Rip M2V & AC3 files with DVD Decrypter. (ForcedFilm was on.)
2) Extracted chapters for CCE & IFOEdit with ChapterXtractor.
3) Wrote AVISynth script. (No filters)
4) Loaded Script and CCE Chapters into DoCCE4U. Used RobShot method unticked Upper Field First and Alternative Scan.
5) Used this Calculator:http://www.dvdrhelp.com/calc.htm to figure out bitrate.
6) Input values and let DoCCE4U do it's magic.
7) Built new DVD using IFOEdit.
8) Burned with Nero6

@telemike, this is a very good question indeed. Unfortunately, it got no answer whatsoever. Maybe they don't know what the software can do for them.

If you guys are interested, take a look here (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvd2svcd.htm).

In dvdtoavi you must force film.

I did all disks from the set using these settings for cce

add sequence end code is checked
Upper field first is unchecked
progressive frames is checked
linear quantizer scale is checked
Zigzag scanning order is checked
DVD compliant is checked
time code to 00:00:00:00
DAR to 16:9

Also in GOP settings
N=3
N/M=4
SEQ Header = 1

You may also want to review the robshot method http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce-advanced.htm

@ReferenceDivx, pls read the sticky below from the IFO forum:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27441

It"s about some issues of .m2v CCE"s file re-mux to IFOEdit.
