after a succesfull burn i now see my movie plays backwards! i burnt the cue files created by dvd2svcd with nero, eveything went according to plan and i hardly changed any of the defaul settings of dvd2svcd

when i open play the movie in real player or powerdvd, it starts at the end, ie with the credits.

i guess its a problem with the order in which the chapters are placed, but have no clue how to fix this.

thanks for any advise
stefan

Let's try to narrow the possibilities:

1. "The movie plays backwards" as in backward mode? Assuming your did not press the "backwards" button on your remote, we need your AVS script.

2. Try mounting the images with Daemon tools or CloneCD and using PowerDVD check if it happens the same. (It's a good practice to check the images this way before burning them, to save CDs and time in case something went wrong).

3. You just burnt them with Nero, right? You did not author again. Please confirm.

4. Also post you VCX Builder log.

5. Try playing the MPEG muxed files directly with WMP or PowerDVD. (Assuming you had "Don't delete any files" checked.)

not backward mode. the movie starts with the credits and the music plays forward. this is memento, so very confusing

i confirm i did burn with Nero and did not author again. didnt find any info in the doom9 guide to dvd2svcd. what does it envolve exactly?

below are the scripts you asked for. i have to admit i deleted the files, so last night i re encoded and these are the scripts.

technically, they are not the scripts that produced my faulty movie, but i changed nothing about the settings, so they should be the same

and judging by the VCX builder log, the problem is there

thanks alot for your efforts they are greatly appreciated!

Sorry, I cannot see anything wrong with your log files. You have no AviSynth command to invert the playback, and the VCX build log show increasing chapters and time codes, so everything seems OK.

I assume you already watched Memento some time at the movies, and thus you know that it is a backwards movie. ;)

Just in case, open the ripped VOBs with PowerDVD and watch them on your PC. Does it look the same as your encode?

Also, remember to do steps 2 and 5 from my previous post.

well the strange thing is that the start of my rip (ie the credits) play in reverse. and then the "first" scene is not the first nor the last in the actual movie

utter confusion. could it be some kind of copy protection that scrambles the order in which the chapter are burnt? seems unlikely but cant find an explanation for this ...

anyone?

ill try with another movie thats less confusing

BIG THANKS

No.

I have not encoded that movie since I don't own it. But did you follow my directions? What did you find out?

Can you play the original DVD on a standalone or in your PC with PowerDVD to see how it plays? Does it play in the same way as the encoded?

Remember: that is a confusing movie.

i watched it first on my standalone and it was the way it should be

when i play the ripped vobs with power dvd it also starts wrong, ie backward credits. mounting in daemon tools does the same (seems like a wicked piece of software though)

you know in memento how a scene ends, and the start of the next scene is the beginning of the previous scene, ie they are not "merged" right? well in my rip its merged right!

thanks man,
stef

Gee, this is so fantastic!

Word of mouth is that the movie was shot normally (forward fashion), and then the director rearranged the pieces at editing phase. Could it be that part of this "artistic" creation lies on the authoring of the DVD?

Interesting indeed.

Give other rippers a try, perhaps one of them gets it right. Good ones: DVD Decrypter, vStrip (internal to DVD2SVCD), SmartRipper.

stef24

well, i was sure i posted a reply yesterday suggesting just that.

the scenes are all on the dvd in chronological order and the editing of the scenes is done on the dvd ... ?!

i dont quite remember what came in what order, so i cant quite describe the order in which the scenes are being shown, but they are *definatly* merged right (not like the normal movie)

i have to add that i ripped with DVD Decrypter because the internal rip in dvd2svcd produces an "authcall.exe has generated errors and will be closed down"

Well, there's still a test you have not reported: playing the DVD on your PC.

If it plays exactly as on your standalone, then it means that somehow the PGC is so scrambled that the ripper you used does not get it. You may try others.

We should have started by using the lovely search button :o. Detailed instructions will come up for that interesting movie. Try yourself.

(Wish I could get my hands on that movie.)

Hi-

I ripped that film with no problem (R1 .avi, though). Are you sure that you used DVDDecrypter in IFO Mode, and not in File Mode?

stef24
3rd November 2003, 18:45
yep it was ripped in IFO mode. id imagine there are quite a few different formats of this movie around, euro vs us, asia, vs special edition etc?

i just did the same process on another movie and it worked perfectly. so apart from making a specific backup of my memento copie, i managed to get what i want, ie backing up my dvd collection

big thanks, this is technology at its best ... !
