I have a Sony NC655P stand-alone DVD carouselle player and it has been wonderful for me in accepting all kinds of non-standard VCD and SVCD input. However, I seem to be having one persistent problem with SVCD stills and navigation.
I author with VCDEasy and Nero 6.0. In either case, everything works as it should in the case of VCD. However, when I produce an SVCD stream, I only get the stream. Here's what's wrong:
1. Still pictures/menus are never displayed. When they are the first in the list of files, the player simply skips them and acts like nothing is there.
2. "Previous" and "Next" buttons are not working. Chapters are produced but, in order to navigate them, I have to use "Chapters" and then enter the nubmers with the number pad and press enter.
Given that the DVD player "understands" VCD perfectly, and accepts SVCD streams with as much as 3200 Kbps of data, what is going on with the SVCD and the stills? I mostly author with VCDEasy, but I made a SVCD slide show with NeroVision and the same story--the slides play, the music plays, but the cover still mpeg-2 does not show up despite the fact that the other slides in the slideshow are also pseudo-mpegs--stills.
Anybody has the same issues?
Anybody got solutions?
By the way, there are no warnings of any sort when the SVCDs are authored...
