Hello folks :D

I have the Ghost in The Shell DVD (the brazilian release), and i must confess i'm very disapointed with the company that released it here (Flashstar). I know the R1 version is widescreen (16:9), the catch is: they released it here as a 4:3 DVD (pan scan), so the picture is out of proportion !!! I hated it !! They simply ruined the movie... My question is: is it possible to reauthor the movie to its original format ? I ask this because i made a divx out of it (i ripped the movie and used one of the guides from here) and i got a correct AR of 16:9... This is my last chance of salvaging this disc, if there is not a choice i'll buy the R1 version....

Thanks

The problem is apparently not that it's P/S, it is just that the authoring guy "forgot" to add 16:9 flags - read the review here (http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/846.php).
Try patching the vobs to 16:9 using dvdpatcher and adjust the flags in the ifo accordingly.

and you may need to patch the ifo as well.

YES !! :D

It worked like a charm...

Hereīs what i did:

1 - I ripped the whole DVD to HDD (i used DVDShrink with no compression)
2 - Opened each VOB file of the main movie with DVDPatcher
3 - I changed only the AR, all the rest i repeated what it was
4 - Using IFOEdit i opened the IFO for the main movie and changed the AR

I tested it in PowerDVD and it worked fine, i just think that the subtitles are a little higher now though... Iīll investigate further...

Thanks again guys !!! :D :D

sorry, this might be a little off topic, but I own some anime DVDs, like the Dragonball Z Movies, and I know for a fact that the Original Japanese DVD realeases are in 16:9.

But for some f***ed up reason funamation in the US have PAN&SCAN ed them all.

Is there a way of making them 16:9 again?

You could try what i did... Although i donīt know if itīs gonna work, in my case i knew that the authoring guy screwed up the DVD... Give it a try...

Pan and Scan means they cropped the sides off to fit on a 4:3 screen. So like, I doubt you can fix this, since you don't have the original source. Unlike dlcorrea, your video wasn't just errored to 4:3, but cropped to 4:3.

true, PAN&SCAN the video is cropped a lot,

but is there a way, to sort of stretch the video, without it looking stretched?
