Hello great people of the Doom9 FORUM.
I have a small question about ''BIN'' files.Ok,my friend burned a VCD of a soccor match in ''BIN'' format. Is it possible to convert the Bin file to avi or mpeg?I did not find anything about bin files ''other than burning a vcd'' in the search pages. If you could help me out a little it would be great.
Thanks for all your help and time.

If you received a .bin file, it might or might not be in the bin/cue format. If you don't have a .cue file to go with it, you either don't have the complete package, or it's in some other format that also uses the .bin filetype. I recommend you ask your friend for the .cue file, or for more information.
This bin/cue format is one of the de facto standards for CD "image" files, developed for use with the CD burning software CDRWIN. Several different CD burning software applications support the format, and can burn CDs from bin/cue files, hence my description of bin/cue as a de facto standard.
The .cue files are small text files describing the CD structure, and the .bin files are the bits that make up the CD.
For more information, please see the CD-R FAQ site (www.cdrfaq.org), question 2-28.

If you have both the bin and cue files, CDMage can open them and you can use it to extract whatever files you want, without having to burn it to CDR first.

Alternatively, try mounting your image in daemon tools - these tools will also mount a bin file without a cue. They allow you to access your image file in a virtual drive.

You can use VCD Gear to convert your .bin file into an MPEG. The bin file created when you make a VCD is simply that, an MPEG, but it now has some overhead added in.
10) Windows sees larger files on the disc than the source was?
Although there are only 2324 bytes of data in a sector, there are 28 more bytes of overhead (sector header, crc). If you access files on XCDs on M$ Windows, it will read the entire set of 2352 bytes, just as if they all belonged to the file! The application has to throw out those 28 bytes! (This is what XCD-Filters do). It is also up to the app to check the CRC in those 28 bytes for correctness.
11) How can i copy data from XCD to my harddisk?
Never ever copy XCD files directly to hard disc! If you do that, those 28 bytes of overhead will stay in the file, and the file is still an XCD-File. If you then make a new XCD from that file, you get more overhead, the file grows again, and the XCD-Filter must be run twice to read the file! The same is happening of course with VCD and SVCD.
To copy your XCD to hd use the dat2file programm bundled with Mode2 CD Maker, Extractor or AVI-Mux GUI
The same is true for MPEG since it's also recorded as Mode2/Form2. So you can use VCD Gear to remove the overhead.

You can use ISO buster to extract all files.

JTDROB31:
Thanks for responding with your solution. Everyone that subscribed to this thread gave good advice, but it might help out the next noob that reads this to know exactly how you went about fixing your problem. There were several options to choose from. Plus, it's always a nice touch when we punch the "trouble ticket", (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48791&highlight=trouble+ticket/) as explained by Ddogg in this link. :)
