View Full Version : What to do with AC3 delays - please help

Hi,

I'm trying to convert some DVDs to DivXs using GK. Having created a DVD2AVI project and produced my full 3_2 AC3 file, I'm using BeSweet to convert this to an MP3 for use in GK.

Problem is I don't know what to do with the delay, which in one case is -91ms and thus would be noticable.

Both BeSweet and GK have options for delays, but I don't know what I set where to eradicate the delay in the final product.

Can anyone please help, thanks very much :)

GKnot will set the audio delay for muxing automatically using the delay value in the file name. You can then keep that setting, or change it. You'll find the delay setting on the Audio 1 tab when you are following Doom9's guide, or if you select that tab after pressing Add Job on the Encoder tab.

Thanks for the reply.

Are you saying that if I transcode the AC3 output from DVD2AVI into MP3, then GK will still recognise the delay in the MP3 filename?

What I'm trying at present is to remove the delay using BeSweet during the AC3->MP3 transcoding process.

Hi-

Are you saying that if I transcode the AC3 output from DVD2AVI into MP3, then GK will still recognise the delay in the MP3 filename?

Yep, that's what he's saying. Even if you adjust the delay to 0 .ms in BeSweet, unless you've given it another name (like Casablanca.mp3), if it's still in the form "Casablanca AC3 T01 1_0ch 192kbps DELAY -27ms.mp3", then GKnot will recognize that and reset the delay. So you'll have to make sure to change it to 0 delay in GKnot, even if you're only just muxing your audio. I think it does that because it assumes that most people will do their MP3 creation from within GKnot, and not separately, as you're doing.

And, as I described, you can change the delay after selecting the soundtrack file in Gknot.

Many thanks to both of you for the help, I'm much clearer now :D
