View Full Version : Pulldown not recognized by DVD player

I have been working on translating some animation .AVI files to VCD.

The originals are in 24.8... fps which is not standard and needs to be corrected. I figured the best way to do it would be to convert them to the closest NTSC equivalent of 23.976 and then pulldown to 29.97.

I did manage to get the video output from AviSynth + CCE 2.5 and recoded the Audio to MP2 128 Kbps format with HeadAC3he.

I then ran the video files through "pulldown" standalone program from the DVD2SVCD pack and muxed the two streams with TMPGEnc.

The outcome mpeg file plays fine on some software players, but not on WinDVD or Windows Media Player. When I used to VCDEasy to create the VCD project, it shows the correct length of the movie. After I burn it onto a CD-R the DVD player runs a 19 min movie in 15 minutes only.

Help! Should I have "pulldown"ed after rather than before muxing? WHy is this happening? Avicodec shows the video stream as 29.97 fps, but it is not recognized as such by the standalone player or some of the software ones.

Also, is TMPGEnc a good way to mux the two files?

Thanks,
Haris

I am pretty sure pulldown only works with MPEG-2 SVCD. MPEG-1 VCD supports only 29.97 fps. I know some players can play 24 fps VCD but most of the time you will get jerky playback.
