Hi, I am trying to create a svcd with some avi's (MJPEG 640x480 30fps)that I took with my photo camera.
Whem I convert with CCE it crashes and with TMPG I get the mpg with soud but no video.
When I load them in DVD2SVCD in the preview video window I get a message AVISource: couldn't locate a decompressor...
Loading directly in TMPG I can solve the problem by increasing, in VFAPI window, the Directshow priority to the first place, but in DVD2SVCD the problem remains.
I have installed GSpot and the codec for this avi is quartz.dll that I have copied to the AviSynth plugin/mpeg2dec folder without solving the problem.
I am using DVD2SVCD 1.1.3 biuld 2, tried D2S121B3 (but got an aditonal soud problem), also tried AviSynth 2.08 and 2.51.
I can play the avi with WMP.

I can only suggest you try this universal method:
1> Open avi in VDub and verify plays in sync.
2> In Video select Direct Stream Copy
3> In Audio:
--a> Select Full Processing Mode
--b> Select Compression><No compression (PCM)>
--c> Select Conversion and make sure 48k/16bit, Check High Quality
--d> Boost volume if you need to
4> Save new Avi off to HD (PCM audio will make it much bigger so make sure you have the HD space).
5> Load saved avi back into VDub and play. Check if audio is in sync. If so goto next (6), if not stop and go to interleaving tab in audio and try to make adjustments in the delay section until in sync and then re-save as in (4)
6> Encode this new Avi as normal in Avi2SVCD.

Tried DDogg suggestion but the problem is the same.

So, you could open your source in VDub and view the video? I ask because it sounds as if you do not have a VFW codec installed, only one for directshow. If you could make a small snip available I could maybe help you a bit more.

What digicam are your MJPEG from?
640*480 30fps sounds like the specs from the Fuji S602 I bought last week.

SNN47 my digicam is a Fuji M603 but the video is just like the S602.
DDogg I can see the video and process it with Vbub, tomorrow I will cut a small AVI and try to make it available.
Today I have managed to create my first SVCD with a good quality the process was inspired in the AVI to VCD / SVCD guide, if anyone is interested I can describe it in detail.

I was first lookin at the 603, but then prices kept dropping for the 602 rapidly to 440@ D: while the 603 remained at 320. Since size wasn't a problem, that's what I bought monday last week, and after a colleague saw it he got his on saturday. Looks like we'l be a few more VGA MJPEG filmers here.
With all the functions to test/learn it won't be before my vacation in december I it will have some VGA-clips to convert. If you don't mind I'll ask you then again if I will have poblems.
If you did take any clips of fast moving contense so far, did you get any blockatefacts? If you have probs using the full capacity of a CF you might have to reformat your CF to larger clusters according to the US-Fuji site.

Hi, I just put a clip in http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0666851602/.
To be correct the clip was cut with Ulead Video Studio and the audio changed to stereo and 44.1 MHz but the problem with DVD2SVCD is the same.

Was there any computer software that came with this camera? I am wondering if there is a codec package or maybe some type of editing software that might install one?
Anyway, this is ugly but it works (I think), load your AVI into VDub. Keep audio as source audio and check direct stream copy. In the video menu set full processing and huffy as compression method. Under framerate select "Convert to fps" and input the value of 29.970. Now go to file menu and save the AVI off to a new filename. Might get big so make sure you have enough disk space.
Use the resulting new AVI as your source in d2s. Should work OK but no guarantees.
After installing the Morgan mjpg codec (http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/) I had no problems opening the source in CCE, but still had strange problems in avisynth and audio encoding.

Taking MJPEG-clips and pictures at night with automatic settings I found them to be to dark.
I could improve pictures using Irfanview (color tweaks). Since I couldn't find a MJPEG plugin in the IRFAN-converter-pack I am wondering if you can somehow change single/all frames as well?

Hi Nacei,
I also have a s602 and would be very interested to know how you've converted to good quality svcd. I tried a while ago but didn't get very good results.
Cheers,
FF.

Hi Fishfinger,
As unfortunaly I could not use DVD2SVCD I will post the way I did it in the General Discussion forum. I will try to do it until tomorrow.

I just googled and found a lot of links to MJPEG like
MJPEG Tools (http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net/) and reference to MATROX and other cards.
So now I am a bit confused is there only one MJPEG or do we have an abundance of different versions/codecs as well.
Since SVCD was 480 * 576 that would leave some black bars in the picture.

I've just posted the way I'm doing my DVD and SVCD in the General Discussion forum.
snn47 I Think that there must be several implementations of the MJPEG compression, at least for the audio, if I load my original MJPEGs in DVD2SVCD not even the audio gets extracted and with the MJPEGs created with Ulead PictureShow the audio part works.

Using Irfanview I got only audio no visual,
with VLC or MPlayer classic I get AV.
So it seems I have already different codecs available for use by different programs, at different folders/locations?!
How can I identify which codecs are used by which program for what.
Why? While there exist many codec-packs I really would like to know how to identify/replace the different codecs if needed, e.g. if some new program might have replaced a good for its own buggy version.

NaCei, could you put up a raw unprocessed clip? It would be helpful in another area I am looking at.

NaCei, thanks so much! I appreciate it as I know it takes time and some hassle to put a sample up.
