setting dvd-burner as master or slave

I have recently installed a nec dvd-burner and it works fine. I have set the dvd-burner (as I my burners have always been) to slave and the cd-reader as master. This solution has always worked for me, but when reading about firmware update the readme said that the burner should be set as master. Does this really matter?

Dont fix if it is working fine!
I allways put my burners as a slave and so far so good.

the idea is to have data run thru as quickly as possible from hard drive to burner...so people advice having HDD1 as master and writer as master on second channel....there is no barrier....

some reader(early pioneer DVD dont give you option to change master or slave; they lock all inputs to lock the regions etc)

nowadays, it s as easy and removing the little plug at the back of the drive.

if its a bother , then dont bother. but when u do firmware update do what they say lol..or else !

If you are going for a firmware update,defenitely go as said by the read me.Some times the update file will be working only on master set drives.I always disconnect the cables that are not participating in update process i.e I only connect the one to be updated,in the IDE cable,preventing chance of errors.

My Pioneer AO4 is set to slave but master is better but then again I never had a problem.
