Hello,
RE: Mr Bass' DVD2DVD guide using CCE v2.5 & Scenarist.
Firstly, many thanks to Mr. Bass for the excellent guide & to D2S for the excellent program. This is my first attempt at using DVD2DVD.
I will apologise in advance if this post gets on anybodys nerves; I have already searched and read pages but as yet haven't found a definitive answer. BTW, this is not a media problem, I have done several IC & Shrink backups with no problem. However, I am a complete newbie to DVD2DVD and its component programs / plugins.
When following Mr. Bass' guide for DVD2DVD with Star Wars Episode 2 (UK Region 2 PAL), I get a white vertical line (artefact) on the chapter where the yellow introductory writing is scrolling up the screen. It is positioned about a third of the way down the screen in the centre. All the other chapters seem ok. This occurs when playing back using PowerDVD XP4 and on my Pioneer DV656A stand alone. A DVD Shrink backup does not produce an artefact with the subtitles enabled, nor does the original disc. The defect is only visible when the subtitles are enabled; so it is contained in the subtitle stream.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks for any help in advance.
Equipment: Athlon XP1800+ & 512MB RAM, VIA KT266A chipset (with latest motherboard drivers as recommended).
Software:
WinXP Pro with SP1 & all critical updates installed.
CCE 2.5 without CRC patch (downloaded from this site).
Scenarist Pro 2.7
DVD2DVD 1.2.1 b3 bundle.
Ripping Method:
Ripped all files using DVD Decrypter 3170 in file mode.
DVD2DVD Settings (very similar to Mr Bass' recommendations):
Misc tab: DVD2SVCD level: advanced.
Conversion tab - no deinterlacing.
Multipass VBR - 2 passes (in order to save time).
Encoder tab - Safemode unticked.
Image Qual Priority 17 (I've read elsewhere a recommendation of 5; could this be the problem, or does it just affect bit rate distribution?)
Anti noise filter unticked
Bias 20
Field code automatic
Time code 00:00:00:00 it was a default of 01:00:00:00 but I changed it to all zeros like Mr Bass' screenshot (I don't understand the ramifications).
Frameserver tab:
No editing checked
Add Sample audio checked (since I saw it was recommended for an Athlon).
Bilinear resize used (changed from the default of Bicubic to match Mr Bass' screenshot).

After reading several pages on the DVD2SVCD & CCE forums, I have gathered there is a CRC patch for CCE2.5. I have now installed this.
Also, people have recommended using internal routines to rip, so I have now started the process again using internal routines with the CRC patch applied. In the meantime, I wondered if anyone else had any suggestions.
Many thanks in advance.
