Sorry for this broken and somewhat clumsy english. It's been a long day.
I wanted to save a bit of Discs when doing my conversions.
I am using Star Trek Discs (PAL Version) as an example.
Each Disc of a Season has four episodes per Disc. Each Episode has Five Languages, from which I wanted to eliminate all but German and English (for the Subtitles too)
There are seven Discs per Season - the last disc only has two episodes (26 in all)
I opted for having 4 DVD-R with five episodes and one DVD-R with 6 Episodes.
This is a quick step-by-step of how I did it.
Since I am fairly new on DVD Backups (only did SVCD till now) this might not be the optimal solution. It definitely was quick.
Tools you need:
- DVD Decrypter
- DVDShrink 2.3beta5
And for the last disc:
- Besweet and AC3Machine for transcoding audio
- Ifoedit and Vobedit for rejoining
1) DVD Ripping with DVD Decrypter
File Mode
All Files (Whole DVD)
Repeat for both source discs
2) DVDShrink (2.3beta5)
2a) Open the first disc (files on the harddisk)
2b) Open a New Frame (File - New Frame)
2c) Opening the second disc
2d) Press Re-author (another new empty frame opens)
2e) Move all Episodes Title 1-4 from first disc and Title1 from the Second disc to empty window
2f) Press on "Main Movie" and then deselect all unwanted Audio and Subtitles. This will be done for all Title-Sets (Episodes)
2g) Press Backup to Start the Conversion.
This leaves you with a disc with five episodes. To get from one Episode to the next you need to step thru each episode chapter-wise. Since each Episode I have only has eight chapters, I'm willing to live with it - also it is not optimal.
Now for the last disc (6 episodes) we have to much material to fit on one disc.
So you need to do these aditional steps
do the same till step 2e (selecting Title1-4 and Title1 and Title 2 from the second disc)
On the reauthored disc in dvdshrink I selected no Video Compression.
Then I deselected all unwanted audio/subtitles as in step 2f.
I selected every Title Set - right clicked and used "Set Start/End Frames" to get rid of the credits (saves a bit of space)
I then "Backup-ed" this large disc, ignoring the size warning. This left me with a 9 GB Backup (to large to burn)
Now comes the difficult part.
Since the English Audio is encoded as Multi-channel 448kbit AC3 this leaves us with a lot of saving potential.
3) With Vobedit - press Open and Select the first Vob-File of the first Episode (VTS_01_1.VOB)
This opens the entire Episode
4) Press Demux and select
Demux all Video Streams
Demux all Audio Streams
Demux all Subp Streams
and press OK
5) We still need the Chapter-Points, so open up IfoEdit
6) Press Open and select the corresponding IFO: VTS_01_0.IFO
7) Select VTS_PGCITI and doubleclick to see and select VTS_PGC_1
8) In the Menu "Tools" - Select "Save Celltimes to a file"
9) Now you can startup AC3Machine and select the English AC3 (VTS_01_1.81.ac3 in my case)
10) I changed the bitrate to 224 and left multichannel 5.1 the way it is (no downsampling).
11) Open up Ifoedit again - Select the menu "DVD Author" - Author new DVD
12) Select the Video (.m2v) the Audio (.ac3) and the Subtitles (.sup) and give them the correct language tags
13) Specify a output folder and press go
14) Now we still need to correct the Colors of the subtitles, so open up the original VTS_01_0.IFO in Ifoedit and the new one.
15) Do the same as in step (7) then select the menu "Subtitle Color" - Copy from this PGC
16) go to the new ifo select the PGC as before and use "Paste Colors into PGC" to fix.
17) Re-Save the new IFo
18) Test in your DVD Player Program
Repeat steps 3 - 18 for all Episodes.
Any questions, better ideas, please share and post.
Cheers
