Well, I've solved one problem (I think) related to garbage cropping up (see this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63795) post), but now I have a new minor, but highly irritating (to me) problem.
I've encoded another X-Files episode using the same settings in the last post; the whole episode played fine except for one small part where a scene changed and then it looked horrid (BAD blockiness, distortion, obvious keyframe jump) for a couple seconds, then corrected itself once it got to the next keyframe, then had no trouble from there on. I haven't encountered something like this since I was doing DivX SBC encoding a couple years ago. I used to run an "anti-shit" function back then to take care of this. Xvid has always been extremely reliable for me in this regard until now. I'd like to think that when I encode a movie it's not going to make a glaring mistake (however small) like this, it's very distracting from the movie, plus I hate having to watch a whole movie again just to see if a problem is present or not. My question is what could have caused this and how can I stop it? Here are my stats:
-Koepi's latest stable build, 6 motion compensation, MPEG modulation, XVID 4CC, all other settings on default.
-Gordian Knot 0.28.5 was used to make the .avs file, I encoded it seperately in VirtualDubMod. I'm planning to upgrade to .28.6 after this post. 640x480 encoding, 29.97 project from DVD2AVI cut down to a 23.976 avi using Inverse Telecine in Gordian Knot. I doublechecked to make sure there was nothing in the way of seperate credits encoding.
