For all those interested I've found a bit more info regarding Hi-Def satellite broadcasts over Europe:-
The Astra 1 (19.2 East) feeds are available at 12.168GHz/V, SR: 27500, FEC: 3/4 PID's: 308/256/8190. In Mpeg2 video with Dolby Digital audio.
There's even supposed to be an Windows Media 9 stream at PID: 1521.
The PAS 3R (43.0 West) feeds are available at 12.536GHz/V, SR: 28080, FEC: 3/4 PID's: 33/66 & 49/52

Hi,
are you sure pid 1521 should contain a WMV stream?
If I dump the pid file file is empty, and a PMT analyzer doesn't show it (and audio is always MP2 (0x3 and 0x4), not AC3):

Hi unixfs
I'm sorry but I can't forward anymore info at this time!
Infact what I posted, is what was written in the UK version of What Satellite and Digital TV.
As it happens my digital satellite recieving kit is not very well again, as it keeps getting struck by lightning - 3 times now. At 3 different addresses. This must be a record!
My current 'burnt out' kit was of the set top box veriety. But this time around I would like to go for a PC card!
I have not had chance to have a look round but I would like a Sat card that could steer my DiSEqC USALS dish (if it still works that is) and maybe even be able to accept CAMs..... So any suggestions would be gratefully received!
Oh yeh, I was quite interested in the Windows media stream myself because I had wondered if the audio packet might be in there own 6Ch WMA format!
Cheers

3 times are really many, it's a really hard luck :(
I have a Hauppage Nova-S card and it works perfectly.
I suggest you to buy budget cards (without mpeg decoder chips onboard) because they are much more versatile and less limited
(they are equivalent to network cards on stereids, so if a certain
provider changes codec you won't be affected).
Best wishes.

I'd recommend you to get Technisat's SkyStar2 + DVBViewer (http://www.dvbviewer.com). Since I installed the latest 4.28 drivers everything works like a charm.
P.S Here's a thread about HDTV and how to make it work with DVBViewer - http://www.dvbviewer.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2037
Take care,

Hey thanks you guys
When I did a quick price and spec search I was quite suprised to learn that both cards are much cheaper than I would have expected. Just goes to show how much digital stuff has dropped in price eh!
Do you know if a dish be steered with either of the cards?
While searching I came across a manufacturer called TwinHan http://www.twinhan.com/visiontv-1_2.htm It would appear that this card carries a CAM slot!
Or am I running before I can walk?
Cheers and thanks.

AFAIK, the SkyStar2 card is compatible with DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.1.

Novas should be compatible with Diseqc 1.2 (motorized, if I'm not wrong).
Twinhan makes cards for Pinnacle and other taiwanese more known
brands (MSI etc).
I never tried one of them, so I can't comment.
BTW, in windows DVB cards don't have a standardized interface to the OS, so you should base your decision on the chance to use DVBviewer (or other good software) with your card;
with Linux it's a totally different (and by far superior) story.

Thanks again you guys.
I have to admit that although the specs for the TwinHan looks very good, we all said and done maybe having a CI module is not really worth it!
I also have to admit a fondness for Technisat products, although I'm not entirely sure if the SkyStar2 card is still available.
I'll have a look tomorrow.

It's certainly still available. You can find it either on Ebay or on several e-shops (for example www.dvbshop.tv). I bought mine a few weeks ago and it's really amazing (and cheap).
Using original driver/software DiSEqC 1.2 for motorized systems is not supported, but there is a great plugin for ProgDVB (one of the best DVB viewing software) that makes this possible.
Using ProgDVB I was also able to watch the Hi-Def test channel that appeared a few days ago on Atlantic Bird 1 (12,5 West).
Bye!
