Hi,

A friend of mine in England transferred my honeymoon video from DV onto some DVD, but he left them in AVI format so I can edit them over here.

The problem is that with many of them I am getting Cyclic Redundancy Check errors, usually at around 80% of copying them to my hard drive.

Does anyone with more knowledge than me on this (not hard!) have any tricks on how to get around it? My friend said he could play them fine on his computer in England.

Many thanks,

David

Those are errors with the drive reading from the disc. You might want to try another brand of DVD drive and different brands handle errors and discs differently.

Okay - thanks.

Would it help any to try and find out what DVD writer they were created with in England and then try and "match" it with a more compatible DVD reader drive over here? Does anyone know of any list of compatible drives like this?

Cheers,

David

The only database I know about is www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers but it is for players only, not writers, nor DVD-ROMs, if I recall correctly. Media and related incompatibilities are anecdotal.
