View Full Version : DVD2SVCD AVI2DVD-r Audio Question

I'm pretty new to making DVD's but I've managed to make some top quality DVD-r's from AVI files but I have 1 problem :-

Using DVD2SVCD 1.2.1 build 2 & CCE If I input an AVI file with ac3 sound it outputs an encoded m2v audio file, now if I'm using a Pal source file I just take the encoded video and use the extracted .ac3 sound. If I'm using an NTSC source file I like to convert to Pal for maximum compatability (some of my NTSC films have been B/W) - The encoded video will be NTSC -> Pal & the m2v will be the same, If I want to use the extracted ac3 audio tho its out of sync.

If I feed the extracted NTSC .ac3 into besweet ac3machine and check the convert frame rate box and input 29976 to 25000 when I combine the Pal video and (supposedly) Pal Audio using DVD Lab I get a problem in playback - Using Power DVD and reading the VIDEO_TS files I get the film playing in fast forward and no sound.

Any ideas how to sucessfully convert NTSC ac3 to Pal ac3?

Also am I right in thinking m2v files are multichannel? - If I have an ac3 5.1 source file and select 5.1 output I doesnt sound as good as if I use the extracted ac3? .... I dont have any hardware audio decoders and I think my player only supports dolby.

Help! ..... I can fault find my picture problems easy enough but my audio problems are getting the better of me

Thanx in advance

Welcome Katash,

sorry to say that, but I'm quite sure that the files with the .m2v extension are your video files (MPEG-2 video, so esentially DVD video). I have no experience with NTSC->PAL conversions but this brings of course an additional layer of complexity to what you are trying to achieve.

I also have to tell you that there are all kinds of issues with reencoding AC3 in AC3Machine by DSPGuru. The ac3enc.dll that comes with BeSweet has many known problems, please search this part of the forum for more information and check the BeSweet FAQ on top.

I already mentioned that I have no experience in frame rate conversion with BeSweet, but can you post what options you chose exactly in AC3Machine and also copy the logfiles AC3Machine/BeSweet gave you so the author of BeSweet (or someone more experienced than me) can have a look at the problem.

Sorry - My output audio files are .mp2's not .m2v's .... Got mixed up

I have heard besweet/AC3Machine has problems with AC3 files so I also have sonic foundry soft encode but afaik it doesnt do NTSC -> PAL audio conversions.

Thanks for the help tiki4

How about doing the frame rate conversion in BeSweet but not generating AC3 directly but six uncompressed mono waves that can be read in SoftEncode? I think that should be possible (I don't have any NTSC content, I can't test it). You have to add '-6ch' in your -core() section of BeSweet.

Also make sure you have the latest 1.5 beta of BeSweet (makes life a bit easier).
