Hi Guys,
I'm curious after using the Big 3 for a while, and getting the procedure down, about how long does it take to do a backup? I don't mean total time, but time that I have to spend on my computer. Is it something that I only need to spend 15 minutes setting up and I can walk away and let it do its thing? What are your typical times?
thanks.

your question is like "how long does it take to go from chicago to new york".

You must be missing the real question. Again, I didn't ask total time, that would obviously be dependent on the computer you are using (as it would matter whether you're going by plane or car to NY from Chicago). I don't want to know how long it takes to encode, rip, etc. I'm curious, on average, how long does it take to setup the software of the Big 3 to do the rest. How much time of user interaction is there? It's just that I'm trying to gauge whether I think it's worth using the Big 3 vs. DVDShrink. If after getting good at using the Big 3, it still takes me over an hour of my time, I would likely look for other alternatives.

Typical time is going to depend on the project you are working on. Obviously it will be hardware dependent, but also you need to look at the amount of assets you will need to configure. You can set DIF4U to automatically load and start all the helper applications in which case it would only take you a few minutes to configure DIF4U and let it do its thing. DIF4U and the associated applications were specifically designed to save you time.
Personally, I spend a little extra time in each part of the process to make sure everything is tweaked the way I want it. Fotrunately Eyes`Only, Aqua, and BBWoof have done one hell of a job integrating everything so I am usually happy with what it determines to be the best settings for my project. I would say overall I spend about 15 minutes actually checking settings and the like.
Hardware speed on the other hand is something that is different for each machine.
Is that the answer you were looking for?

Precisely the answer I was looking for ShaneZ. Thank you. So I suppose the first couple of times I try using the Big 3, it may take me a while longer. But once I get the hang of it, it should likely only take me 15 minutes or so of tweaking? Sounds good to me. Is doom9's online guide the best place to start? Any others? thanks.

Actual 'at the keyboard' time for a 'usual' project falls within 15 to 30 minutes once you have it down. Once you get into the 'unusual' projects, the time will increase depending on aptitude and complexity of project, but you will notice that the quality is 'that damn good!' that you will realize the time is worth the effort!
