I'm having a problem with a menu in scenarist..I want this menu to play an intro to it when it's accessed from the title menu, but not to play it when it loops around if no button is pressed. I have managed to do this with the title menu and it works perfectly. I made the extras menu in exactly the same way and this works fine in the scenarist simulation window, but when I create the dvd files (scenarist shows no errors) the background video appears, but the subpicture and highlights dont! It just plays as a video clip. I have no idea what I have done wrong so if anyone has any clues as to what it could be... :D
The track as it appears

And the scenario as it appears (Well..The menu area anyway...)

Any help gratefully appreciated..
Just realised...The extra bit on the start of the menu track is because I encoded the video from the wrong position originally.. Could this be what's wrong?

So as i understand it, you want the transition to play when exiting the title menu going to the main menu, but not to play when you are in the main menu and it loops. If so then just make three seperate tracks, the button (in the title menu) for the main menu links to the transistion. The post command from the transistion goes to the main menu. And then the post command from the main menu links back to itself.

It should work the way you have it setup. The thing that looks a little strange to me is that the scene start time and the highlight start time are different.Scenarist won't let me create the dvd unless the these two are the same.

Hmm. I still can't get it to work. I even tried leaving it entirely and playing Max Payne instead :) Didn't help coming back to it.
@ DnGermany - It enters the menu the way I want it to, it just won't display the buttons. I tried it the way you suggested, but I get a small pause that I was desperately trying to avoid (Non seamless?? I'm new to all this so I'm still learning)
@ burnttoast - I thought it should work as it is, but the buttons just will not appear! I've made a few menus now with a delayed highlight/subpicture on them, and they have (after finally getting a grip on how it all works) all worked so far. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and recreate the original background video and re-encode it properly and hope it doesn't cause problems this time. Still, it's annoying though...It should work..

It's normal to get a small pause when viewing in the simulation window. Go ahead and compile it, then you will see the difference. I thought the same too when i first started using scenarist.

Here's your solution:
Add a chapter stop at the point in your video where you want it to loop back to, your highlight play time should start at this point also (I seemed to always get mux errors when I attempted to have a highlight start partway into a motion menu). Then you just need to add a post command so it jumps straight to this chapter. I seemed to recall having a problem implementing this though, so to get around it I ended using 2 copies of the menu, a full version (with chapter stop for the first play) in the Videomanager, then a loop only version without the intro as the root menu in the language folder of the main movie title.

This has my head battered... I have re-encoded the video correctly this time and the buttons still wont appear/work!
@DnGermany - I'll 'ave a try later on, but as far as I understand it it should work the way it is (someone tell me if I'm wrong about that).. My title menu is exactly the same and that works fine... I'll try that out later on if I get the chance though.
@Diggedy - I think the way you have described it is the way I already have it! The looping isn't the problem, that actually works fine (I found that out after I watched the video menu right through with no buttons whilst trying to calm down after muxing the smegging thing for the 6th time without any success  ). The problem is that the subpicture and highlights don't appear when they should (Not at all as it happens). The whole menu just plays as if it's a video clip even though the subpictures and highlights are there!
Thanks for the replies chasps! It's nice to know there are people out there willing to help us noobs out..:D I am determined to get this working though. I will NOT give in!!!

Did you see the graphics for your substream in the simulation window when you drew the buttons? If no then it's possible the colours for the substream are slightly off.

Yeah, in the simulation window it all works perfectly, it' only when I mux it and make the vobs that I get problems...That's why it's so annoying, I have to wait 15 minutes every time I make a tiny change to test it!
I have been fiddling around and suddenly realised something. I have no idea how to link directly from the title menu to a root menu! Which command do I use? I've been messing about with that for about half an hour now and I can't work it out! I'm sure I've done that before..
I hate being a noob at this sort of thing..Makes me feel dense :D
Thanks again chasps!
(I've remembered how to do the title > root menu... forgot it was system space  )
