I read an article on doom9 guides that explained that dvd supports mpeg1 (vcd) but you must change the audio to 48000
Well I changed the audio and multiplexed the files and imported my film into spruceup
I put the final thing on my standalone and the sound plays and the menu plays but the video does not. Just random coloured blocks around the screen and black background.
I put it into the pc and it plays.
I did not burn direct from spruceup I made an image and burned with nero. My standalone player playes everything even cheap dvd-r. Cyberhome adl, so whats the problem.
Is this article true or false

It is true. Did you rewrite the video headers with dvdpatcher? The guide on doom9 talks about this.

That only needs to be done when using mpeg2 svcd as far as his description goes.
He does not mention it for vcd

I will tell you exactly what I did so you can review
1 Extracted cd1.bin (cd1.mpg) and cd2.bin (cd2.mpg) using vcdgear
2 Merged the 2 mpegs with tmpg to make full.mpg
3 Converted the audio to 48000 with tmpg
4 multiplexed newaudio.mp2 with fullvideo.mpg
5 now i have finished.mpg (mpeg1 + 48000)
Imported into spruceup
Made a basic menu
Saved to img file
Burned with nero data mode 1
As I said it plays on the pc but not on standalone player, I just tried my mates standalone player that play everything and it was the same as mine, just black with blocks

altho mpeg1 is allowed on DVD, vcd doesnt exactly fit the specs:

the main difference between that and VCD specs is the GOP size, which may or may not be your problem.

It's been a while since I used the guide. Use dvdpatcher. A mpg-1 while the correct size still doesn't fit the specs. Dvdpatcher will rewrite the header to fool the authoring programs into accepting it. Works for me.

Although the authoring program might be fooled an thus importing your streams your standalone is an other story.
Some support this and other just don't. try your disc on n other player, might be just your player and then it's bad luck I guess. :(

So basically you have to do this no matter if you have a vcd or svcd. If so the guide should be changed. I noticed the comment about the standalone player so I tried it on another and it worked.
If I let dvdpatcher rewrite the header is there a chance to could work on my player or not. Whats you ideas on that, yes or no.
Cheers for the advice

I have one where it will work but another where it does not. Then again I have a few dvds that just won't work in that player no matter what.

Its strange that its my standalone, as i does not have a problem with any kind of dvd disk even cheap princo ones. I have tried 8 types of dvd-r and 3 dvd+r with no problems and it supports vcd/svcd. Out of all my mates players mine is the only one that does not have any problems at all. Until now that is.
Im going to give it another go with rewriting the header using dvdpatcher and will report back in a couple of days on the results.
Cheers

It does work without patching the file. I found an upgrade for my cyberhome adl and it works fine with this upgrade.
Both mpeg 1 & 2 play fine now
