Encoding to smallest size?

I have a small VOB file about 1 minute long which I'd like to encode to DivX 5.1. All I know how to do is encode a whole movie with Gordian Knot to CD size.

Since this obviously doesn't need to be 700MB, I'd like to encode it (with audio) to the smallest possible size w/o degrading itself. I would think that a minute DivX movie would be under 10MB, but I don't know how to do this.

Anyone help would be appreciated!

BTW, on another topic, I just upgraded to the latest GK, and when encoding, the "DivX preview" window and the VirtualDubMod Info window (which showed time and other stuff) is gone, and I just see the main DubMod window. How do I get the others back?

Hi-

I don't have DivX5.1, but make your .avs the normal way in GKnot and Save it. Then open it in VDubMod, and go Video and set to Fast Recompress. Then go Video-Compression-Divx5.1. Then hit the Configure button. Then inside DivX5.1, choose 1 pass quality based and move the quantizer slider slider to 2. Choose any other settings you want while in there. Then "OK" your way out of there. If DivX 5.1 is appreciably different from 5.05, then maybe someone else can help you out here.

As for the audio, make it in advance from within GKnot, or directly in BeSweet or Headache. Go Streams-Streams List-Add. Add the audio. After it's loaded right click it if you want to fool with Interleaving or Delay.

When all done, go File-Save As, and give it a name.

Or you can do it in GKnot, the way you're used to. Instead of encoding for a full CD, just set the file size to 10 MB or whatever you want.

As for the second question, hit that Dub In Progress button in the upper left and then hit Show Status Window. Is that what you meant?

Or you can do normal two pass with setting => calculate final avi size and => giving an approximate bitrate in the bitrate tab.Again the bitrate can be calculated using GKnot and required file size.

You can set whatever size you want right in GK. You can set it to 10 mb or whatever, just adjust the size to get a decent bit/pixel value. I've done this before for testing very short clips.
