Is there any easy way to keep certain parts of the extras, and stripping some? Is it possible to strip everything but the movie and still keep the menus (it's nice with the choose scene feature)?

Which program (commercial or free) is easiset and gives the best result when copying a dvd9 to dvd5?

hi,
what you want to do can be achieved in quite a few ways, as always ranging from high quality but also very time consuming to lower quality, but much less time allthe same...

so if you want to invest relatively small amounts of effort (=time), i'd go for DVDshrink. you cannot fully remove the extras, but you can shrink them to an almost tiny size. just choose 'still show' in the compression settings and you'll only have a few megs of extras on your DVD... the menu of course is still fully functional.

the second method, which i have to say is MUCH more time consuming, is 'The Big 3'. There you have several options to disable certain VTS sets, PGCs etc... unfortunately this requires quite a bit of understanding of the DVD structure aswell as CCE and Scenarist NT - two programs that are not really intended for the end user range - which you can easily notice on the price tag ;)

anyway, for both methods, aswell as for others you can find guides here:

PS: pls remember rule 12 (do not ask what's best). video encoding isn't an exact science most of the time, so just too often 'best' is something different for every person around here. so my tip is, go out, read the guides, test the methods yourself and see what you like the most. if you encounter any problems you are of course welcome to ask :)

Check out Elby's CloneDVD as well. You can remove extras just by unchecking them. It's not free but you can download a 30-day demo.
