i have read all the faqs and tested a bunch of settings
but i still get this annomoly.

first off let me say that i resize to 382 X 288 sometimes a little bigger 416 x 304 becouse i only watch it on my cputer, (sometimes i go full screen) and i try to keep it a under 700 megs.

the source is interlaced and i forced film to 23.someorother fps. i tried turning off all the settings in the "pro" features of divx5.1 changing my monitors/video card settings, i dont think its the vid card becouse, others ppls rips look good.
i first used lancoz field/deinterlace and other combinations of settings, most have either some of the same affects of look crappy as hell..
the video is sharp as hell (thats great)
but i get sorta a jerky motion and the charaters have an ANGELIC apperance to them when they move and no im not being visited by angels...:D ...i think..
and if they move from one end of the frame to the other, i can distintly see miniature squares or blocks from where the character was, is this what is called "macroblocking".
i must be missing something i know i am, any suggestions?
i think this is the log you want:

Angelic appearance? That's the same as ghosting, I assume?

Did you use a deinterlacer? (you didn't post the avs-file, just the jobsfile) I get some really good results with TomsMoComp. Besides, using a deinterlacer, you can also tweak around with the IVTC parameters. But I don't know, since I've PAL and don't need IVTC.

No good: don't ForceFILM if you intend to deinterlace later. You do either, but never both. And always try Telecide(post=false) on a NTSC interlaced video first. If the video looks OK, with doubled frames, then an IVTC is in place, else you deinterlace.

I noticed SimpleResize was used. That's a fast/quick bilinear resizer, and may produce less-than-desirable results. And apparently, the _gknot.log was replaced by the .avs file, rather than appended when you edited.

well peliminary test:
i am using neutral bicubic with field deinterlace[no blend]
with a 29fps stream and it gets rid of the jerky movement,
alot better than with my 23fps tomsmocomp.
but the picture is not as clear as it was with lancoz, but at least
its a step in the right direction, i can work with maybe upping the video bitrate,
but one more question
i understand that i would have alot more frames with a 29fps field deinterlace(no blend), versus making a 23fps Tomsmocomp, will it make the filesize bigger per min of video with the same codec settings?

If your bitrate setting remains unchanged, then a reduction in framerate from 29.97 to 23.976 via IVTC will provide a higher b/p*f value, as the "f" value is reduced by 20%.

Your choice on whether to IVTC will depend on content. I recommend www.doom9.org/ivtc-tut.htm if you haven't reviewed it yet.

Yup that did it guys vids defin look alot better but here is something i am having problems with:
if i go:
dvd2avi, do a 29fps, select the bitrate to equal around 700 mb with sound, neutralbicubic and seperate fields i then select "ivtc" and "recalculate bitrate if necessary"
the file will always come out undersized maybe about 100 megs or so and the gknot job window will say something like:frame count mismatch, but if i dont recalculate the bitrate the file will come out oversize... unfortunatly im not home so i cant post the logfile but i can if this stumps anyone.

Hi mothman,
Read the IVTC guide posted by jggimi. It will give you better understanding about IVTC.And remember IVTC means Inverse Telecine which is what is presented in detail in the above guide. For enabling IVTC process in Gknot, you have to select Inverse Telecine in field operations. You also have to check "recalculate bitrate if needed" option for correcting bitrate if frames drop and also "IVTC in avs -> correct frame count" option, both.

For the visual representation(That is link..:D ) lookhere (http://www.doom9.org/gknot-divx5.htm) (From "Then we have field operations")
