I just brought a pioneer a06, dvd +- writer, using win xp pro, and DVD Decrypter, i have made a back up of a dvd, which i own and was smaller than 4.7gig, using the iso write function of DVD decrypter and it worked fine. But i tried to do the same when it was over 4.7gb but realize that the iso function would not work, so i tried the file system of DVD decrypter to rip it, the file system copy the main move files to hard drive, now how do i get them back onto a dvd, i tried to create a (dvd.mds) file but it came up with cannot read from file (c:\movie name\video_ts\vts_01_0.ifo) Reason: REached the end of the file. So i tried to used nero 6, and selected to make dvd move option then selected all files, when i used nero i came up with a warning that the disc maybe unplayabe, i continued anyway, after the disc was completed i tried it a normal dvd player, and on my system and it didn't work. Any help in this matter would greatly

Just burning part of a disk back to a DVDR won't work. DVD structure is a little more complicated than that, and everything needs to complete and internally consistent.

If you want a movie only backup (or a full backup, though the quality will be lower), I recommend the following:
- rip in ISO mode with DVDDecrypter
- mount the ISO with daemon tools
- use a one-click program like DVDShrink or Instant Copy to make a movie-only backup from the mounted ISO
- use ImageTool Classic to turn the backup files into another ISO
- burn the new ISO with DVDDecrypter

You might also want to check each backup on an RW before committing it to an R, at least for your first few backups.

Commercial dvds are very different then consumer dvd's. You generally have to compress the video to get them to fit on a standard consumer dvd. There are many excellent guides on this site to help you accomplish this. I would suggest http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce-advanced.htm as a start.

Ouch! CCE-Advanced? This is the newbie forum; you want to give him a coronary?

At this point, frecs probably wouldn't even know what we meant if we told him to rip the main title in IFO mode. The CCE-Advanced guide presupposes that you've already done that. It also doesn't explain how to author the results back to a DVDR.

@frecs, I certainly wouldn't discourage you from learning all you can, but there's plenty of time to get into the advanced stuff. You might want to cut your teeth on something simpler (like a one-click backup).

I agree maybe he should start with baby steps such as the do-it-all-4-u guides but then how do you ever learn what really goes on behind the scenes. I think he should just read the guides and forums. Its basically how we all started.

Frec,

Start with the dvd decryptor guide http://www.doom9.org/dvddec.htm
This will give you some insight into how a movie is decompiled onto a hard drive.
Then read http://www.doom9.org/dvd-basics.htm this will give you the basics on DVD's and it also has a newbe guide. This should give you enough to get started.

I would start with DVD decrypter in File mode.
Play DVD from HD with PowerDVD to check.
DVDShrink if its too big.
Burn with Nero (Ver 55.10 or above)in DVD Video mode.
Done.

Hey guys,
I think your missing the point here:

He said: "I used DVD decrypter to rip the MAIN MOVIE files to hard drive, now how do i get them back onto a dvd"

That means he's probably got the following on his HDD:

VTS_02 - Stream Information.txt
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB
VTS_02_3.VOB
VTS_02_x.VOB

I think he wants to know if there's an easy way to create the missing VIDEO_TS.* files (...and so do I :) )

I've tried it myself a couple of times using IfoEdit but without any luck so-far.
Any suggestions anyone?

Greetz,
Alfa

I don't think we missed the point. It sounded like he wanted to know how to make a movie only backup, and copying the main titleset VOBs is not the way to do that. The easiest and least error-prone way to get the main movie onto a DVDR is to discard the erroneous titleset VOBs and start again using the original DVD.

To answer your question about creating VIDEO_TS, try the old version of DVDFab. It has a button to create a dummy set of VIDEO_TS files. I have no idea if it can deal with any and all situations, but it's free and only takes a second so it's worth a try.

Use the 'create ifos' button in ifoedit. Remember that a valid title set must has the vts_01_x.vob and ifos in, it can't start with the 2 or 3 vts title set.

The old version of DVD Fab or even older predecessor DVDToolBox is very good at creating a VIDEO_TS.IFO even for Multiple VTS !
Another easy way is to run it through DVDShrink / re-author. You don't need to compress if you don't want to and it wont change the quality but it Will write a new VIDEO_TS.IFO in the backup folder along with the other (copied) files.

Thks for a quick response.

I think i finally found how to get this to work now, with both ifoedit and DVDFab.
...oddyseus got me thinking...:

I renamed all the VTS_02_*.* files into VTS_01_*.* files,
after which, creating VIDEO_TS.* using DVDFab was a breeze :)

(Can't remember seeing this in ANY of the guides tho')

(and another personal note: IfoEdit is a bit of a pain because you need to manually adjust sub- and audio-specs, and both the guides by Doom9 and the author of ifoedit are far from clear on what&where exactly this needs changing. DVDFab on the other hand is dead-easy but won't work if you don't have a VTS_01_0.IFO file)

Thanks for the help & c u around.

Alfa.

thanks, i tried, and conquered i think, if any other problems arise i will let the forum know. Ended up using dvd decrypter and dvd shrink at times, and dvd fab.
