Undersized Files again. Some Help ?

Hello, my friends,

MANY times, I get undersized files.
Like trying to make Xvid for 3 CDs and the final file is 1600Mb.
I talked to KOEPI once, but his answer was very dramatic.

KOEPI said to me no not using B-frames at all, but I think is so radical... I'd like a medium solution.
Like using less B-frames. Where should I alter??
On maximum B-frames, or in the Threshold ?
Will improve if I use 1-150-100-0
or what do you suggest?
Many times I get the right size, so I don't need big modifications, I'm getting good quality, but sometimes I feel it could be better, if the size could be improved. It's horrible to make a Xvid for 3 CDs and get 1200Mb size... less than 2 CDs. BTW - I use Gknot 0.28.

use 1 - 100 - 75 - 0 for bframes, this should help it already.

For 3CDs you really shouldn't use bframes at all, I don't think they help the quality there, it's more useful for 1CD rips IMO.

And you could also increase the resolution till you hit the original 720x576 (PAL)... This tends to solve undersizing-problems in most cases. :D

Indeed. Oh, but only for 4:3 stuff ... 2.35:1 has so much fewer pixels, unless you stay anamorph.

follow koepi's advice for B-frame settings, if you must have them at all (me too, I don't understand why you ultimately want to use them. B-frames are there to lower the quality less than the possible gain through spared bitrate. But since you don't want to spare bitrate [you are undersized] it's better to not use Bframes. Period.)
Furthermore, use "custom quantization" with something like "hvs-best", "Andreas-78er", or a table with all-16's ("CG animation matrix").
Your undersizing problems will vanish, and the quality most probably improve by much.

I'll follow your wonderful advices.
Since many months ago I was desiring to make this question to you.
I'll make some tests not using B-frames at all, and the KOEPI advice, and see the results for 3 CDs.
The only way I really don't mind the original DVD is when I make it for 3 CDs. 2 CDs sometimes is good, sometimes not. Using 3 CDs I have no doubt the quality will be really good. BTW I've just made my 250 movies always using KOPEI's codecs.

The advice to use 1-pass is welcomed too, it makes things easier, more fast.
