When trying to play my dvd in my dvd player I get the message: "This DVD cannot be read, check your DVD". Now what does this mean?
1. My dvd player can't read traxdata dvd+rw (the player should be able to play dvd+rw)?
2. I can't copy dvds correctly?
or 3. My Nec nd-1300 can't burn traxdata dvd+rw properly?
I stripped the DVD to the movie only with both dvd shrink and dvdfab witht the same result. I burned the DVD with Nero. Worth mentioning is that the burned DVD can be played by PowerDVD without any problems. Is there anything in particular I have to think about when trying to play backups in a stationary dvd?

I suspect this message means your player doesn't even recognize that the disk is valid media. It could be a chunk of wood as far as your player is concerned.
Try an experiment - put a regular DVD or CD in your player label side down and see if you get the same message.
If you do, it's probably #1. I've had similar problems with +RWs in my player.

if you have not done so already, check out your standalone player's capability in the database at www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers. It may be a media restriction, or even a brand-of-media issue.

I`ve had aproblems with traxdata cd-rw`s (basically they don`t work!) in my old hp cd-rw drive. I tried one in my Nec ND-1300 and it can`t read or write to it (a cd-rw).
Personally I`d try a different media first (Standalone player can`t read it).

ive got the same burner and love it. ive been using maxell dvd-r's and havent had a problem (that wasnt something I did to screw it up). btw, if you havent dont so already, make sure your firmware is up-to-date. ( http://herrie.rpc1.org/ ) that should help a lot with your media probs....hth.

Thanks a lot guys. It seems as it was actually the media which couldn't be played by the dvd-player. I tried a dvd-r with it and it worked like a charm. Seems kind of tricky to get the correct dvd brand...

I`m using Datawrite Classics (made by Datasafe) from what I`ve found out on the web they`re the most compatible across all players.

It seems the real tricky part is to find a +rw/-rw that works with the stand-alone player. Are there a media list which tells which media is most compatible? Can the manufacturers media recommendations be of any use?

I think you`re going to have problems with rw disks unless the player specifically states that it supports them.
If you are burning disks to use an a few different players I`d just use + or - r`s.

Hello, i got the same problem with Primedisc DVD+RW wich are the same media as Traxdata, i do think it depends on the NEC Firmware.
Try to read the Traxdata in a normal PC DVD-ROM.
