I'm having problems using Nero 6 Ultra. I'm using the shareware trial edition. It'll say it's burning but the status bar will not move. It stays at 1% throughout the entire burn process. It coasters all of my DVD+Rs that I've thrown at it.

My burner is the Plextor 8x DVD+R drive.

HELP?

Anyone have any ideas? I coastered 7 DVD+R discs trying to make one backup copy of my Scar Face DVD.

I own the DVD... not warez or anything. I have a three year old who wrecks havoc on all of our DVDs.

Anyhow, any help would be appreciated. If not, I guess I'll be sending the drive back to Dell.

Are you trying to make a direct copy of it? It won't work because there's probably CSS copy protection on the disk. You need to use a program to decrypt it. Something like DVD Decryptor works good for that.

If you just want to copy the DVD you can use one of the guides here on doom9.

I copied a DVD not too long ago, and I used CloneDVD, and it worked perfectly, and it was VERY easy.

No I'm not trying to make a direct copy. I used DVD Shrink to re-encode everything. I've got all the .vob files and what not. I even tried to burn a regular data DVD+R and it failed.

Does the DVD play on your computer?

Is the media certified to burn at whatever speed you're burning them at? Even sometimes media isn't always compatible with the drives. I bought some 48x CD-R's and they wouldn't burn at 48x at all. 32x worked fine though. I even called the company that made them, they said they're just not compatible.

So try lowering the speed.

When I try to burn the DVD it only has one speed, 2.4x. I'd put it at 1x if it would let me but it doesn't let me. I've tried with both EZCD and Nero so far. I've tried the Nero 5 versions and the Nero 6 versions. I've tried everything. I'm gonna try and format and see if it helps. I'll know for sure if its the drive or not soon.

I have the same burner as you. Its a software issue. If you want a perfect burn get the latest dvd decrypter to burn in a iso format. Otherwise get tmpge dvd burner or record now max. They work perfect. Done over 30 coasters until I figured out the problem with this company. They issued it too early without testing the software with it.

Ok so even after a FRESH install of Windows XP I'm still getting the same error. Nero hangs after a few seconds. Same with EZCD. I'm beginning to think that either the DVD+R feature is defective or the media I have is just not compatible with this drive. The drive says it's stuck at 2.3x DVD+R burning speed.

The media is Imation DVD+R. On the label that the DVDs came in has no mention of what speed they are. This sucks as I'm getting frustrated as hell right about now.

Try Memorex DVD+R 4x media - I've had excellent results with it, its really Ricoh-made like the TDK 4x DVD+Rs. Memorex has 40% off sales quite frequently at CompUSA and BestBuy.

One Night Stand,Hi,

I will try to help.

I had a similar problem when I first got my Plextor 708A. It would not burn +R discs, so I asked for help from Plextor in Belgium (I am in England).

They replied that it was a fault of the Nero burning software. The 708a is very sensitive to the version of Nero software. They advised that I use only version 5.5.10.45 which came on the CD with the burner.

I first removed the version 6 I had been using, and cleaned out the hard disc and registry with the Nero Cleaning Tool. Then rebooted and installed version 5.5.10.45.

Since then no problems, even with the cheapest discs available on the internet.

I have also the Plextor 708A, updated with 1.03 firmware...
The problems i now have with NERO is that the DVD's play fine on homeplayer but aren't recognized on PC. (not always)
I am using NERO 6.0019 now and with 00.15 the copys wouldn't play at all on homeplayer.

Now with version 6.0019 when testing with RW+ sometimes the ISO is correct and can be read by PC, the other time it isn't (50%/50%)
If i burn with the DVD-Video profile (standard, no altered settings)
The Disc always plays ok on homeplayer but not on PC.

Ewoud, Hi,

Have you tried using -R discs?

I use Nero version 5.5.10.45, and when I burn on (PRINCO) -R discs, they play on my old Toshiba DVD Player, and on my newer Sony DVD player, as well as as on my PC.

When I burn on +R discs, they play on my Sony player and on my PC but not on the Toshiba player.

It is strange that a disc plays on your home player but not on the PC. Try using Power DVD (if not already done so) to play DVD on the PC.

Everybody has different circumstances, but I would suggest that you change to Nero version 5.5.10.45, and most of your troubles with the Plextor 708A should be solved.

Also try changing the other software you use. DVD Shrink is very good, and there are many useful guides on the web, which will show you exactly what settings to use on both DVD Shrink and on Nero. At a rough guess I would say that using 'standard settings' will not guarantee success. Read and follow the guides.

Hi there, thanks for your reply :)

I don't know what is the mather with the ISO side of the UDF/ISO bridge burned by NERO with either version 5.00.xx or 6.00.xx i have the same results and that is that the filessystem isn't ciorrectly recognized by windows, after some ejecting and navigating through windows it finally is... i discovered, but that's not the only problem,...its just not correct written cause when try to load a copy agian into Shrink i got strange errors during analyze.

Well, i left Nero and installed the STOMP RecordNow Max trial and everything is okay now, unbelievable.. never could have dreamt backupping so easy ;) Allthough the interface is somewhat less userfriendly, the burned results play and load perfectly!
Maybe, i'll install NEro again a few firmwares and updates later...

My NEW "DAYTEK" homeplayer (a produkt of Deawoo actually) is really recommanded...this thing was only € 47 and plays every format (-r/rw +r/rw, cdr/rw, (s)vcd, mp3
Bought it at MEDIAMARKT ...model 700M
Nice very slim alluminium design.
sommoth playback and bckw/ffw. etc.

Ewoud, Hi again,

Do not forget to really clean out the old Nero from your computer, before you install a different version, and you must reboot after every step.

The Nero Cleaner available free on the Neero site is best for this job.

Good luck,

Nosmo.

I just wanted to update everyone on how I fixed my problem. I upgraded my burner's firmware to 1.03 and it works flawless with Nero 6.19.

I was wondering yeah, were to get this NERO-clean tool, thanks... i'll give it a try .....later. I yet don't see any reason to install Nero again as it didnt work for me, even with firmware 1.03 and update Nero 6.00.19. But the Stomp recordnow Max application works excellent! :) Only the strange thing is, a friend of mine has the same application bundled with his Sony burner and it now its by SONIC and Called: REcordNow "DX" Did they takeover the other company?

Ewoud, hello,

For Nero Cleaner you must dig deep into the Nero web-site. It is difficult to find, but it is in there.
