View Full Version : Auto-split feature: Split point not in the middle

GKnot 0.28.6 works great as ever :)
But as with the previous version, the auto-split feature does not take into account the spare file size you define (which I use for subtitles). It maxes out the first cuts at max CD size and the last cut is the smallest.
A workaround is, of course, not to use spare file size and set the CD size a bit lower. But I guess that's not what was intended.

indeed it doesn't :) But it was never intended to include that into account, since you always can manually adjust settings and GK doesn't perform auto split of subs in the job anyway...

Alright, but the decreasing of the max CD size is just a minor annoyance. And my automated post-processing batch scripts, easily split the subfiles in the proper amount of cuts too (by parsing the GNot-log with awk and using the split points in the command-line interface of VobSub).
Thinking of it, it would also be nice if you could add custom commands to the Joblist. Just as r4r allows you to do a custom command in Finalize. The latter I use to do automated compressability checks. I'm too lazy to hit the comp. button and wait for it to finish. The same with vobsplit. Though, it would probably have taken less time than the writing of the scripts :p

I have got the following problem with GK 0.28.6.1:
A whole movie before splitting has audio- and video-tracks synchronized, but when I try to split it in automatic mode the tracks became do not synchronized.
Splitting manually with "vdubmod" gives good results (sincronized tracks) as well as automatic splitting with GK 0.28.5.3
audio: vbr mp3 2 stream

I probably know why... I'll look into it.

In the movie before splitting audio header is "vbr", but after splitting header is "cbr"

Yep. I was trying to make it work with vdubmod 1.5.4.1 which seems to not like the fact I always tried to say that I have two streams when doing splitting. So when I removed explicit assignment it now treats everything as CBR :( Easy to fix for one audio track but a bit tricky for two...

Ok, bad news. I think nothing can be done from within GK about it. But if you go to the preference in VDubMod and set "by default try processing MP3 VBR streams like nandub" in AVI options - this should sove the problem. You can try and report back.

I could never split files with 100% precision using VirtualDubMod.Always 2-4 MB less or more than what expected. Then how is this problem compensated in Gordian knot?
I have tried using AVI/MKV/OGM in VDM and did split 2-4MB below or above desired size.
BTW,I'm using the latest Codec and RipPack.

Tuning, You might also want to try AviSplitCalc (http://ia.microdee.net/). I found this one pretty accurate with finding the split point exactly in the middle. It also uses VirtualDub and you can stack a number of jobs before the actual processing. btw, the link in the Doom9 download section is a bit outdated, so you might want to try the link above.

Actually good news now. Suiryc was able to help me and I know how to fix that now. Will be fixed in 0.28.6.2

The same problem with mp3 vbr GK 0.28.8 (vdubmod 1.5.4.1 or 1.5.10.1):
- mux video and audio by GK - 1_464_471_552 bytes (file1), Stream: audio length 2:36:09.954, video and audio not synchronized
- mux video and audio by "add stream" in vdubmod - 1_468_131_328 bytes (file2), Stream: audio length 2:36:10.032, sync. is ok.
When this (file2) is opened in vdubmod message "Virtualdub has detected improper VBR audio encoding in the source avi file..." appeares. File1 was opened without any messages.
Original mp3 and demuxed are the same.

@Maxim Maximov
Try updating BeSweet to the latest version. GK clearly considers your mp3 track as CBR coz it doesn't have Xing header - this was a bug in one version of BeSweet which was originally bundled with 0.28.8 pack. But shortly after that pack was silently updated. You seem to have the wrong version of it...

yes, it works (beSweet 1.5b28)
Thanks.
