View Full Version : Sync/track length issues

I recently spent several hours encoding A Beautiful Mind and much to my chagrin I found out my video track (divx 5.1) is 02:15:21.82 in length and my audio track (ogg vorbis) is 02:15:18.067 in length... I'm still a bit new to muxing/etc, but I'm assuming that because the audio track was shorter, some noticeable sync issues should occur, and they do. The movie starts off almost alright, but as it nears the end, the audio is at least two seconds ahead of the video.

The length of the movie according to DVD Decrypter is 02:15:10.29. All three times are different from each other by several seconds... so I guess I'm confused as to which number I should be using and why the encoded files were off.

Is there any program I could use to add the approximate three seconds of empty sound to the sound track? Or should I be lopping off around three seconds from the video track?

Thanks in advance for any response.

I know you said "The length of the movie according to DVD Decrypter is 02:15:10.29" So i assume you used DVD Decrypter, are there any other programs you are using?

Sorry, I neglected to give enough details. Here goes nothing.

I ripped A Beautiful Mind with DVD Decrypter.
(the vob length was listed as 02:15:10.29)
I encoded the video using DVD2AVI 1.77.3 and DivX 5.1 Pro.
(the resulting avi length was 02:15:21.82)
I encoded the audio using Headac3he 0.23a to Ogg Vorbis 4 channel VBR.
(the resulting ogg length was 02:15:18.067)
I muxed the resulting avi and ogg with mkvmerge.
(I also tried muxing as matroska in VDubMod and muxing as avi in VDubMod. All attempts at muxing produce a result in which the sound gradually "drifts" out of sync with the video.)

I tried using mkvmerge's "stretch" function on the audio, but the resulting matroska file had problems (no sound).

Thanks for the reply. I hope I can figure out how to fix this.

Hi-

What's the length of the original AC3 track? Open in HeadAC3he and see. Is it also 2:15:18.067?

To answer one of the original questions; BeSweet can append a given amount of silence at the end of audio tracks. But I'm not sure that will help you in this case.

And I have no idea how the movie length came out different from what it says in DVDDecrypter. I can only suggest not encoding through DVD2AVI, but following one of Doom9's guides:

Maybe you should try to use a different program to encode the files, if that doesn't work, I'm pretty sure something went wrong in DVD Decrypter. What are your settings for DVD Decrypter? (E.G. File Mode, ISO Mode, IFO Mode)

VirtualdubMod has a setting to tell it to NOT adjust the length of the audio/video tracks during muxing, but just to cut off the audio ( its longer in most cases ) once the video stops.
