Hi there.
I have problems with playing dvd in windowsXP. My program tells me that I have a video error when trying to play a dvd movie. Do I need anything in particular to play a dvd?

The only stuff you need is a software player, a DVD drive and of course a DVD movie... :D

A bit more info would be usefull !!! ;)

What player have you used ?

What DVD drive you have ?

What DVD you wanted to watch ?

What are your system specs ?

Bye

I have a nec nd-1300 dvd+/-r dvd writer and windowsXP. When trying to play a movie in the windows media player I get the message "no codecs installed". Does codecs come with dvd software?

Must I have an audio cable from the writer to get sound?

Usually your drive will come with WinDVD or similar to play DVDs. Without a software based DVD player (PowerDVD, WinDVD) installed, dvd playback will not be possible.

Nope.

U can also use Mediaplayer classic to play back *.vob files found in video_ts directory.U need ac3 filter to hear Dolby digital audio from the same movie. Both available in downloads section of doom9.org :http://www.doom9.org/software2.htm
For simplicity u can use commercial software DVD players like PowerDVD,WinDVD etc.
Windows media player can also play DVDs when configured with appropriate filters. The filter can be downloaded here (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/freedvd.zip).But these filters also requires WinDVD to be installed in ur system.

The audio is embedded in the movie itself. So u need only use a software player capable of rendering the sound to sound card via windows sound drivers.

Hope this can help you to decide what to use......:)
