Does anyone use this program? There is hardly any mention of it on this website. For me it works just as well as DVDDecrypter. Just wondering if there is some reason not many people use it.

Hi, Digitalman!
I had a lot of problems with extremely low ripping speeds in Windows XP with some moderately scratched disks...
When I installed and used CladDVD Decrypter XP, it was slightly more succesful in ripping the scratched disks. Both DVDDecrypter and SmartRipper tended to frequently linger on ZERO speed for a long time, making ripping of the whole DVD a VERY VERY VERY VERY slow process..
CladDVD Decrypter sometimes fell back to 0.0x, but was not on that speed for longer than a few seconds, than moved slightly forward again at 1x or 1.5x speed. Still not great, but going nonetheless.
See also my thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63209 (http://)
I get the feeling when using XP that CladDVD Decrypter XP is better capable of dealing with scratched or damaged disks.
Regards,
Jeroen.

I second that answer. I experienced the same. The probable answer may be the older version was IMHO nowhere near as good as the other two you mentioned. The dyd decrypter is on the board a lot and always gives good info. Makes me feel more comfortable using his program. Not to mention, of course, It is a great program. The new version of dvd decrypter may erase this difference. Haven't had a chance to fully explore it yet.

Yes. I had the same experience. Some disks that DVDDecrypter would get stuck on, CladDVD was able to get through them.

CladDVD doesnt do anything. As far as I know, its uses windows api for all of its routines.
So long as your drive and system are 100% ok with DVD Decrypter, there is no reason for it not to rip exactly what all the other program can, and probably even more - due to it being lower level.

@LIGHTNING UK!
I agree it should. Haven't tested the new version for this yet but with the last version I had a couple of times where it was true. Maybe it is system quirks, clashing software ect. I don't know. I much prefer using DvdDecrypter. Haven't had any problems with the Latest yet. Here's hoping I don't. Love the ripper.

i've used cladDVD a long time ago during the early times of divx4, but switched to dvddecrypter once i made myself comfortable at doom9 :)

Okay, as DVD Decrypter got eliminated (http://www.cd-rw.org/news/archive/6503.cfm), CladDVD just got bit more interesting. Of course the current/last Decrypter version will serve us well for some time, but still I think that the lack of developement increases the interest towards alternatives.
Haven't tried this one yet, but sure am about to.

Just a question:
What do you think about Vstrip GUI 0.8 et Smartripper 2.41 (the old) ?

i think smartripper is the simpler to use and used todo a pretty good job until it stopped being updated. since the source is out for it aswell then that also lends the posability that maybe one day someone will update it to defeat things like arccos etc. would be interesting to see. :)

It simply uses vStrip... So it cannot do anything that vStrip can't... ;)

Update Ripper?
Would Smartripper be victim of the incident of L.UK ???? Or just for something else..
Somebody can it clarify?
:thanks:

It simply uses vStrip... So it cannot do anything that vStrip can't...True, though it also uses MiniDec & Vobdec for key detection if vstrip failed on a small VOB file.
But, as neither of them programs are ARccOS aware, cladDVD.NET is also unaware....
I didn't know you were still about maven....... What's your feelings about further development of vstrip? Did you lose interest? Ever crossed your mind to update it to be 'ARccOS' aware? Or to make it more friendly for 3rd party GUI applications?

I don't really think there'll be any further development from me; it's been a mixture of not having as much time as I once did and other things coming about (e.g. getting a job, moving to Mac OS, etc.).
It is about as friendly as it can be to GUI applications (as that's what vStrip_GUI is) due to the encapsulation in a DLL. The problem is that these need to abide by the GPL (which is a bit unclear on (semi-)dynamic linking). I once asked about putting vStrip under a more liberal license (BSD / what-have-you), but I did get absolutely no feedback, so I didn't bother.
I had started a new version a long while back (finished the new command-line parser ;)) but never completed it as the plug-in system I was planning grew bigger and bigger, and now the source is at a point where it is far from even compiling. I've just gone through my changelogs, and here's what's changed from 0.8f. If anyone is SERIOUSLY interested I'll see whether I can release the (unfinished) source of that version:
04.05.2002 20:40:45
0.8g:
- lower keysearch default of 1 / 1
- correct IFO-traversal (only for correct LBAs)
- changed revision (in version info) from being ASCII to a number (1 ^= a, ...)
08.05.2002 12:49:07
fixed Tsunami's IFO language assignment bug
08.05.2002 12:59:25
fixed language assignment for subpictures as well
10.05.2002 18:07:06
added some comments to the changed IFO-code
12.05.2002 17:47:30
changed vs_close_all to vs_done (for inb_CANT_WRITE)
31.05.2002 18:43:57
changed inb_buffer, moved code for traverse parsing from main into vs_init
04.06.2002 17:45:58
added commandline-unit (unfinished)
06.06.2002 01:09:08
finished command-line parser, still need to write check routines for args and use results
06.06.2002 20:08:39
finished new command-line parser
10.09.2003 21:31:01
- added few fixes for compilation on UNIX systems
- fixed a stupid bug in the command-line version which passes in incorrect (shifted) IDs / flags for substreams
- added vso_ALIGNAC3SYNCWORD flag (on by default) to start demuxing an AC3 at the first

OK I'm starting to get semi-excited now.... ;)
It is about as friendly as it can be to GUI applications due to the encapsulation in a DLLSo without knowing 'C' how can I get the information needed to access/use the DLL from VB.NET rather than using the vstrip.exe in CLI ?
Would you be OK with that ?
Infact, just going to have a think about a few things as I would love to mention some good and bad points about vstrip that I would love to get your opinion on, don't take offence, I certainly couldn't do any better.
It would be great to get something sorted especially in light of the recent DVD Decrypter issues.
Speak to you soon.

This discussion should probably move to the development forum. Could a mod please take care of that?
infodvd, easiest thing would be to look at the source for vStrip_GUI and see how the functions are declared and used there.

Ok, we'll cease this particular discussion here and I'll take a look at the GUI source, if I can find it, it was in delphi if I remember, that's another language I know nothing about, lol.... I'll get a little test application up to see if I can access the DLL from .NET.
I'll get back to you in the development forum from now on.
Cheers.

Hi all,
Quote from the clonead:
"Some DVD's have cropped up with a new protection, Sony ARccOS!!!! cladDVD .NET will basically 'fluff' on these, I don't have one of these DVD's so can't even test to see what happens. Some of the movies to have this ARccOS are the region 1 (US) versions of Evil Apocalypse, The Forgotten, Little Black Book, The Grudge and Wrestlemania. I've been told there is a way around it using a free program called DVD43, it's like a driver that will bypass the ARccOS protection whilst cladDVD .NET is ripping as usual. Like I said, I can't confirm this as I don't have one of these DVD's so if someone could let me know I'd be most grateful."

from memory smartripper was stopped in 2001 i think. so no i doubt it was anything like a C&D order.
if someone wanted to add the remove unreference material found in Vobblanker to smartrippers file ripping however you would, atleast in theory, have a ripper that bypasses/removes arccos protection. ;)
