I've been demuxing VOB files from my DVDs and remuxing them quite happily for some time now. I have just encountered a disc (The Doors: Soundstage Performances) that is giving me problems.
For my harddrive video jukebox, I need to have all my audio streams in MP2 format. So, I use DVD Decrypter to decrypt a chapter from a disc into a VOB, then I demux the VOB with TMPGENC's MPEG Tools, then I convert the AC3 file to MP2 using Besweet (entering the AC3 delay value from the stream info text file). Finally, I remux the M2V and the MP2 files back together and test the file on my Reeltime MPEG 2 card.
This technique has worked fine for about 15 DVDs so far without any problems. Perfect picture and perfect sync.
The Doors DVD is an odd one. When I run through the above procedure and test the new output file, the video stutters and pauses, and the audio is wildly out of sync, with lots of pops and crackles. I've tried other chapters from this disc and they all exhibit this problem.
I am pretty sure that the problem is that the file lengths of the files are different. The VOB file is 3:33:11, but the M2V file is 3:33:05 and the AC3/MP2 file is 3:33:12. (The delay value is listed at -14 MS). There is also a padding_stream and a private_stream listed in TMPG.
I have read in many places that the length of the video and audio files must be the same for a successful MUX. I've searched the forum for answers as to how to correct this problem (i.e. what tools I might use) but have not found anything.
Any insights would be appreciated, and I'm sorry if this is a silly newbie question.
