View Full Version : Downsample menu, remux it, working buttons

Hi all!

I was trying to downsample a menu and remux the video stream back into the original vob with vobedit.

But once I play it, the buttons don't work properly.

Is there a way of doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Yes it's possible. Use numenu4u, which is designed for this.

I'm a bit against DoCCE4U :P

Any other way?

Thanks for the reply "influenza".

Any particular reason you're against it?

Is there an other way? Yes:Dvdshrink etc. You can compress a menu with that

Well, there is no particular reason. I don't like these doit4u programs.

I like to struggle about with ifoedit, vobedit, ifoupdate.

And if I have to downsample something, I prefer to do it myself, by hand.

Wondering about ifoedit, I found the "Merge menu tables" feature.

Seems to be the one I'm looking for :)

Am I on the right path?

Regards.

I am a big fan of the doit4u programs (although I have a fair amount of knowledge to do things without them).

If you wnat to do this manually the go all the way. Demux the menu and reauthor it completely. Since you like challenges this would be one :D

Will this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=46178&postid=385266) answer your question?

@influenza: well, that wouldn't be a problem, but my goal is to keep a 100% original menu, with video downsampled. So, original buttons ;)

@Dimand: I love your program, it makes menus easy to restrict. You have been of great help with that proggy :)
The post you refer to: yes it would help if I had 2.3.0 :P
But, isn't there another way of doing it as well? I read somewhere a way to export menu layout hmmm

I don't quite understand your answer. Ofcourse you have your original menu if you reauthor it. You just take it apart first completely. Reencode the video and then put it all back together with all original buttons etc.

It's just a lot of work

I'm not aware of other way to export/import menu layout. If you are registered user you can get latest beta. If you are not you also have a chance :) I'm working on completely new design of the program and will need a few "active" beta testers.

Well Dimad, there has to be another chance.

If it's true that numenu4u can do it, while it uses ifoedit and ifoupdate; then I'm sure this can be done "by hand" with the combination of these two programs.

Anyways, I can help you out testing your new design ;)

Never used numenu4u, so can't tell. Just let everyone know if you will get any results.

I'll contact you about beta testing when I'm through initial tests.

@ eJoeyXiON

What you are asking is exactly what NuMenu4u does. It breaks the menu vob apart, re-encodes the video, reauthores each vobid with ifoedit (you will have to work out the cell boundaries) and then re-compiles the ifo based upon the new vob information. Ifoupdate is not needed. Remember if you want to do this by hand (god knows why) then your tricky bit is the subpictures. vobsub won't do menu vobs - you'll have to find a way round that like i have - and then after authoring, you will need to change EVERY highlight time control in the VOB stream.

Hello all,

To revive this thread ;) here I go again.

I followed what Dimad suggested me to do some time ago:

What you need can be done in few steps:
1) demultiplex cell with your menu into: video, audio, subpicture (just delete all other cells from the .vob file using MenuEdit and then use any demultiplexer you have);
2) do what you want with the video (or just create a new one from the bmp exported with MenuEdit);
3) multiplex video/audio/subpictures back into vob file (say with IfoEdit);
4) open your vob file in MenuEdit 2.3.0, get into menu of interest and save buttons layout as .mbl (not as .bmp);
5) replace menu cell with what ever you've prepared;
6) go back to edit dialog and import saved buttons layout;
7) delete any unused buttons;
Done.

Works fine, except that the buttons will not show up.
I wonder whether I treated the subpictures (buttons layout for menu) in the right way. I demuxed the subpictures for the menu using DVD Decrypter (stream processing). It created .SUB files.

Then I remuxed the downsampled video, downsampled audio and the correspondent .SUB for the cell using IfoEdit.

I used MenuEdit following steps 4 til 6 of Dimad's suggestion.
But still, buttons are not showing.

I understand that MenuEdit 2.3.0 actually does not support this, or am I wrong? (I hope so :) )

I did the whole thing with VobEdit obtaining perfect downsampled menu, but my problem is that I need to downsample the audio, and the VobEdit method does not allow me other than remux just new video into the .vob cells.

Please let me know whether I was right with the way I followed Dimad's suggestion.

Thanks in advance!
