Hello.
Can anyone help me with the following.
When I try to use DVD decryptor to rip DVD's to my HD, everything seems to work fine up to a certain point (40-60% usually) at about 4x-6x reading speed. Then the DVD seems to detect a read error, falls back to about 1% and slightly later even to 0.1 or 0 entirely!!
Now I heard about the DMA/PIO problem with Windows XP.
DMA is enabled when possible, and I have the feeling that even when falling back to PIO after some read errors read speed should at least be in the 1x region, not ZERO.
I have installed the most recent ASPI layer I could find.
I tried to set 'fast error skip' and set the 'retries' to 1 or 2.. didn't work, basically stops reading still.
The point is: I tried to rip four different DVD's, all but one of them were practically not copying at all. The disks were moderately scratched!
Now I have been doing ripping for some time on a much slower configuration then I have know, and I NEVER had so much problems with the ripping. Usually speed was about 1x, and I was happy.
-> Am I supposed to have so much problems with scratched disks?
-> Is there a ripper that can succesfully read damaged disks?
-> Is Windows XP the problem?
I get the strong feeling that it must have something to do with the drivers for either the DVD reader or the IDE bus, as even PowerDVD stops playing in certain scenes on these DVD's - mentioning a read error.
As I said, I never had problems with scratched disks before.
How bad does it have to be before PowerDVD refuses to read?
For your information, I'm now running:
-AMD Athlon XP 2250+.
-Windows XP Professional edition 2001.
-Creative DVD-ROM 1243E (standard XP drivers).
-40 GB harddisk.
