My Experience with IC8 is the following

Before trying Hiddensettings for IC7 & IC8.

I tried to backup Indiana jones - the lost ark.

Everytime the size was about 3.6 - 3.8gb even if I oversized with up to 1GB :-(

I then began to browse this forum for some info and found the hiddensettings for IC7 & IC8. :-)

Trying Hiddensettings for IC7 & IC8

First I tried with recommended settings on the same movie, but the result was about the same. Then I tried different settings and after more than 10 Re-encodes in IC8 it now works "perfectly".

Now Indiana jones 1 endnu up with 4,25GB,
Indiana jones 2 with 4,3GB
and Indiana jones 3 with 4,22GB..

For me that is good enough.

The settings I have come up with is, that I use the recommendedsettings and alter the following.

1. Activate DVDHideconversionpicture.
2. DVDdestsize has been set to 4446mb (4.34GB)
3. DVDdestdisplaysize has been set tp 4454 (4.35)

When IC8 is running I choose my self that the data size should be 4.31GB.

I know that the data size by default will be too large, but I have found that if i change is to a smaller size by default the final size of the reencoded movie will be too small.

if you have any further Questions, just post them and I will try to answer.

Regards
Michal

MackemX was supposed to post recommended settings and guides for Instantcopy 8 once it came out, but I think he is too wrapped up in his new tool now.

I was really looking forward to Instantcopy 8 from reading MackemX's posts about it, but now that it's out, all I see is user complaints. Wonder if MackemX was using a newer version that what was released?

OK here's the settings I use thanks to details MackemX posted someplace (can't remember where :( )

Open regedit and navigate to this key:-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VOB\CD Wizard\7.5\Copy

Then alter your settings to the following:-

"DVDDestSize"=dword:00001189 sets it to 4489MB

"DVDDestDisplaySize"=dword:00001189 sets it to 4489MB

"DVDAnalyzeMaxRel"=dword:00000020 sets it to 32%

"DVDAnalyzeMinAbs"=dword:00000020 sets it to 32 x 2.5MB packets that get analysed

"DVDSaveQuality"=dword:00000000 sets the safety margin to 0MB

"DVDSaveFast"=dword:00000000 sets the safety margin to 0MB

"DVDAutoFast"=dword:00000064 stops it from setting it to Fast setting

"DVDAlwaysEnableOkButton"="True" obvious

Great backups every time and as close as I can get to perfect size on most discs. You can of course just make it real easy and use ICHSE, I've been so busy of late I've not really had the time to play around with the settings in it that much.

I find by chosing 4.37GB I've never yet had a movie that is too large to fit the media when burning the .pdi image with DVD Decrypter. :)

I bought Instant Copy 7 and had fair luck with it. The quality, of the backups, was better than the rest of the programs I tried, In my opinion. My problem is that the output size is either too small or too large. The program takes too long to run to keep playing around with the settings for each movie. I looked at the hidden settings program and didn't understand it, so I quit using IC 7 and was waiting for a improved program to come out. When IC8 came out I didn't by the update for 2 reasons 1 Pinacle screwed me on the rebate 2 there seems to be the same size problem. Maybe some day they will get it right. I'm using DVDshrink for most of my backups now.

Which Instantcopy version are these settings for? Version 7 or 8?

I used Instantcopy Hidden Settings and applied the settings recommended by Hidden Settings. Here are my results:

Default Instantcopy Settings: DVD Output Size 4.21GB

Recommended Instantcopy Settings: DVD Output Size 4.25GB

It's better, but not by much.

Lazza, the settings you are using are slightly different then the Hidden Settings recommended ones. I'm going to try your settings now and see if it improves anymore.

By the way, this is all in Instantcopy 8 using the same DVD and the same % decrease in every try.
