Avi or MPEG-4 file

Two computers with Windows XP. I have used SmartRipper to ripped the dvd which was burned by using Roxio Easy CD Creator in computer "A". I can play the burned dvd in computer "A" by using BS Player or Divx Player but the same dvd can't play in these player or WMP in computer "B". I am getting the message "Failed to open. Please check that it is a valid AVI or MPEG-4 file". I don't under stand what is the problem with computer "B". Please help me.

It might be a problem with your cd-rom drive, or the drive doesn't "like" that particular cd-rom media. I'd try to copy the file to the hard-drive.
(of course the problem might be something else)

edit: it would be useful if next time you'd make your post's subject more clear. "Avi or MPEG-4 file" is very unclear and frankly, annoying. something better would be "problem opening avi on computer "b", works on "a".

Thanks for your suggestion. I thought about it but decided it would be too long a subject. However, on dell's and other forums they suggest a subject description suppose to be very brief.

In these forums you can be as verbose as you want, more information is always better than less here :)

You ripped a DVD then burnt it...did you actually convert it to XviD or are you just burning the data back to a DVD?
("I can play the burned dvd" makes me think your not burning an XviD file...)

The problem will be a lack of the correct DirectShow filters on Computer B (try installing a DVD Player and ffdshow). Also search for and download Media Player Classic (It is the best Media Player (IMHO)).

Many thanks. You are right. I did not convert it to Xvid but burned the data back to dvd. I will follow your suggestions. What DVD Player are you referring to? Sorry, it is a dummy question.

I believe Nic means that you need to install any DVD Player (that is marketed as a DVD player, not just a media player) because it will also install some filters that are needed to play DVD's.
