Hi.

I was wondering why is it that when I set sound output to SPDIF I get serious performance problems. Shouldnt it be faster ? Because I thought that when using SPDIF all sound processing would be made ny receiver and not the PC.

When I set it to software 5.1 sound (the PC is processing the ac3 soundtrack) the playback is flawless.

Just as a reference, I noticed this problem playing back divx file containing 5.1 ac3 soundtrack on WinXP SP1 / athlon 3000 / audigy

any info will be greatly apreciated

What kind of software player are you using ?. Try to switch it.
Are you using AC3Filter ?. Anyway, AC3 passthrough shouldn't be a CPU hog, on the contrary, doing the decoding on an external decoding device, should be easier on the CPU.

yes im using ac3filter 0.70.

when I set it to SPDIF out the performance decreases and pan sequences become jerky like if it was a really cpu intensive task.

when I switch it to 2/3-SW-5.1 (that would probably be decoding the ac3 file by software) I get a perfect playback.

This is really weird :(
