I installed AC3Filter 0.70b a few days ago.
I had no AC3 audio codec before.
Installation apparently went fine :
- I do find the files in C:\Program Files\AC3Filter
- I can see AC3Filter in the list of installed programs from Control Panel
- I can launch AC3Filter Config
- I find registry entries under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AC3Filter

However :
- my player still cannot read Audio information [Tag 8192]
- GSpot does not show AC3Filter in the list of installed audio Codecs.

I think I found why: c:\windows\system\regsvr32 ac3filter.ax returns this message :
"DllRegisterServer in ac3filter.ax failed, Return code was : 0x80040154"
which means "Class not registered".
:sly: Registration did not work....

Why ?
- I checked that no other copy of ac3Filter.ax exists on my PC
- I ran c:\windows\system\regsvr32 /u ac3filter.ax several times before
- I uninstalled AC3Filter and reinstalled it

I do not know what I shoud try next.

Does that mean that AC3Filter requires another class that is not installed in my PC ?

Help welcome

(My PC is running Windows Me)

Thanks

Hi,

I've nevr had problem with AC3filter, but if you have why don't you use another ac3 decoder? i think there are several free decoders, try katest ffdshow build, it has not only video decoding but audio decoding, including AC3. Didn't try myself since i used WinDVD AC3 filters but check it if you want :)

Hope it helps

Thanks Ivan for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, I have exactly the same problem with 2 other CODECs, eg ivaudio.ax.

Regsvr32 keeps failing with same error message, which probably demonstrates that the problem is not with AC3Filter but with my environment.

Bottomline :    ???

Yeah, it seems like you have a problem with Windows :( Never heard of regsvr32 failing, strange behaviour. Try restore windows or reinstall it (i think there's something called "repair" but i'm not sure). I can't help you with that. Good luck

Sorry, i've just see that you run on Windows ME, i don't think you have repair option in this OS. Why don't you use Windows 2000 or Windows Xp if your system is powerfull enough. They're better OS that windows ME, i installed it once, and i unistalled a week later, too much troubles with it.

It is an applicattion to register the files.
Just find it in the web, then drag the file over regdrop to register, to unregister, press shift an drag the file over regdrop and the file will be unregistered.

I tried RegDrop either by drag and drop or by command line :
it told me the component was successfully registred... but it wasn't.

But thanks for the idea.

Still working on it....:(

I think this is the problem.Upgrade to Windows 2000/XP.I had no problem while using these OSs.The ME installations did last only 2weeks,while XP/2000 lasts several months.

Even Microsoft executives say Win ME as a Toy Operating System.
