I tried to describe the title as best I could regarding my issue. I will try my best not to write a book but I am sure this post
will be long. I just want to say thank you to all of those involved with DVD2SVCD, I know more than one person is responsible
for this programs capabilities. Before I post my problem I will post my computer information so that it may help you assist me
with my problem.

My system specs.

DVD2SVCD versions
1.05 build 4 to current 1.2.1 build 2
CCE SP version 2.5

I have been using DVD2SVCD for a year and a half with absolutely no problems. It would seem that now I am having issues with
CCE crashing after the first pass. Normally I would do a 4 pass and achieve great results. Now I cannot use CCE without it crashing.
The error I get is the typical Windows XP message of death that states Cinema Craft Encoder caused a problem and needs to be closed.
The crash doesn't occur until after the first pass or at the end of a single pass. I have checked and rechecked my settings and nothing
has changed. I have spent hours searching the forums here and still have not found anything to help me out. I have read the Q&A regarding
CCE issues and nothing I have tried has helped with the crashing accept for one suggestion. Changing from MPEG2Dec to MPEG2DEC2
does allow CCE to run without crashing however once the process is complete and I try and play the mpeg files, I see the following message
in red letters at the top of the screen with no movie, picture or sound, "Avisynth caught an access violation at 0x0aaf357b attempting to read
from 0x0b60ecd0"(exact same thing happens if I try to use Canopus encoder with either Dec or Dec2). I am sure there must be a way to get this
thing working again but what confuses me is that I have run this program for over a year with no problems. My memory and cpu are never
over clocked, I even tried under clocking the memory just to see. I did run memtest for about 2 1/12 hours and received no errors(not sure
how long it needs to run).

No matter which version of DVD2SVCD I use I still have this problem. Again, I have already tried everything that is suggested in the Q&A
including using TMPGENC. I have attempted to back up several movies now and I get the same error. TMPGENC did work but it took about
12 hours to encode VS under 4 hours normally when using CCE. Also there was sync issue when running TMPGENC where the first disc
would start out fine but sync would gradually become off later on disc 1 and would become more off on disc 2 and even more on disc 3.
Now, even more strange is when I use D2SRoBa this is what I get....

Shutdown in 111 seconds

Take a look, it only took 1 hour and 55 minutes to complete the process but CCE still crashed leaving the Windows XP message
of death. The only difference is D2SRoBa will continue enabling DVD2SVCD to complete it's tasks and as a result I will have a finished
movie. BUT WAIT, there is still the same sync issue as described above when using TMPGENC. This situation doesn't make any sense
to me considering DVD2SVCD and CCE has been working without any problems for so long. I did try reinstalling windows XP, DVD2SVCD
and CCE several times but that hasn't fixed anything. My only other idea is to try installing Windows-2000 and see what happens.
Any comments, Ideas, suggestions or input that you might have I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time,

H8

Sorry mate, no idea why CCE is crashing.
One point I would make though (as if you haven't enough on your plate!) is that Avisynth frameserves to your encoder (CCE, TMPG, whatever it may be). If the frame being served up contains an error message not a picture, your encoder will simply encode this error message to MPEG2!! This is not an encoder error as such, the error is happening before the frame gets to your encoder.

Have you played about with the Avisynth.ini file, or are you editing or using otherwise customised avisynth scripts? Also which version of Avisynth are you using, 2.08 or 2.5x?

Also, try playing the avs file in Windows Media Player.
Open WMP, file menu > open, then change the file type dropdown box to "all files". Open the Avisinth_script_file.avs and see what happens. If it plays jerky don't worry about that but if that screws up then something is going wrong very early in the process.

Thank you for your reply. I have tried Avisynth V 2.08, 2.5, and 2.5.2 as well. I have not edited the Avisynth file because it didn't seem necessary as I have been backing up movies for over a year now without any problems. At this point I am willing to try anything just to complete this movie. Also having children, family members are constantly buying them new Disney DVD movies which I always back up immediately and never let them use the source disc. I need to try and get things working again. Do you think it is possible that my DVD-ROM is not ripping the VOBs correctly? It is pretty old.

i have had much more success with cce 2.67 than 2.50. 2.50 used to constantly crash. with 2.67 i've only had an issue once and it was because the bitrate i was using was too low (500 kbps hehe) at a higher bitrate the encode went smoothly. now this will only help if the avs is sound (meaning you can play the avs in media player and get video and not an error message)

I wouldn't exactly say I found the problem but I found a way around it. As it turns out I had been using a much older version of DVD2SVCD when I didn't have any problems. I started having issues with the later version to current. I was able to track what but not why. It would seem that the shorter movies 80-90 minutes would run fine. The problem would occure on the longer movies 2-3 hours. I am not sure why this is but the latest version of AVISYNTH seems to have solved the problem providing I use the
MPEG2DEC.dll and not the the Mpeg2dec3.dll.
