You will need to search on this long answer to this problem. The short answer is, assuming you have your dvd drive attached to the secondary channel, is to delete the secondary IDE channel from your IDE/Atapi controller and reboot. It will reinstall the secondary channel and you should be good. If not, perhaps your drive has gone bad.

Other times in dvd2svcd, especially on episodic series dvds, sometime dvd2svcd will seem like it is hung after doing all of the rip. Normally if you wait until the blue progress bar is all the way til the right you will be ok. But that only takes 5 or 10 minutes.

Before doing the above, check on your PC's properties, hardware, device manager, IDE controllers, whether you are using DMA or PIO mode. If PIO, deleting the key from the registry and rebooting is enough:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Look for this key in the corresponding PIO channels, delete them and reboot: MasterIdCheckSum

For details on this trick search for "dmafix.exe" in this forum.

hmm i went in and deleted the master key for the secendary ide channel which is the one that IS in fact running in PIO mode...i tell it to run in dma mode if available but it doesnt seem to think its available. rebooted...same thing, its still in PIO mode. its only device 0 that is in pio mode tho...

nice :)...i tried uninstalling my secendary ide channel and rebooted and now both devices are ultra dma :D i love this forum! thx guys.

uhgg, well its the next morning and ive tried ripping again and the same thing has happened. even tho now im running in dma mode, i am "stuck" at the 3rd vob file ripping at a whopping 87 kb/s. what else could be the problem?

its odd cus it starts off fast and i dont think its my hardware that is messing up cus it plays dvd's and i can install stuff on it fine and i used to rip with this same dvd-rom with no probs but it was in win2k not xp...so i think it has to do with xp maybe?

k this is what i see:

Can other tools like DVD Decrypter rip the disc? Maybe it's just a bad disc?

its something to do with the disc i know now. i tried ripping another dvd i have and it worked fine...not sure if its some kind of encryption or if its just a bad disc in general.

ive had a disk get stuck on a vob for more than a day. was a really bad disk. so on those rough ones i use dvddecryptor. dvddecryptor is good at recovering/reading bad disks.. if they arent too bad. it gives you the option to retry a bad sector or skip it(better if you dont have to skip any). i usually turn off the drives internal retry (turn on fast error skip) and just set dvddecryptor to do alot of retries(12). depends how bad you want to recover your dvd and how bad the disk is if its worth doing it. after a while eventually it reads the bad sector, and finally completes the disk

after im done i fire up dvd2svcd and let it rerip from the files dvddecryptor left on my hd.

I have problems (at the Scenarist stage) using DVD2SVCD with DVD Decrypter rips. Can "reripping" the files that DVD Decrypter produces overcome these types of problems?

TIA,
Stuart
