hi
i was just wonderin, if i have a movie on my comp, is it possible to transfer that video through my s-video port which is connected to a vcr, and record it onto a tape. if so, how can i? please send post a guide!!!

Well, you just configure the computer to play the movie on the TV-out, just like when you watch it on TV, and then you put a tape in the VCR and press record and then you start the movie on the computer.
This might not always work though because of something called Macrovision. DVD's and (S)VCD's can have this form of protection so in order to make it work, you must rip the DVD with a tool that can remove macrovision for you before you play it. (Both DVDDecrypter and Smartripper can do this so it shouldn't be a problem)

I think I remember hearing that in the US, all TV outs on a computer are required to have macrovision. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Actually it works so - software DVD player will not work via TV out if not detect that it has macrovision. Playing via Media Player has no macrovision activated.

Hi-

I've recorded my .avis to videotape just as hakko504 described. This was with an AIW Radeon card. No Macrovision problems.

On a related subject there is also another form of protection I don't hear many talk about. I forget the technical name, but it is a digital copy inhibit that is somehow present in the signal so that one cannot record to a digital format like mini-DVCam. It doesn't bother me as my cyberhome player can remove this as well as macro-vision, but that ability is rare in dvd players. I thought it might be worth mentioning here if others are searching the topic.
