I locked the post in the other thread.
Yes there is a way but I'm sure you wouldn't be satisfied with the results.

why? because of the loss of menus or the loss of quality? is it hard or does it cost that much time to rip the 3 episodes incl. 2 soundlayerd and subs, and arrange them in a simple button menu?

depending on how long each episode is, you'll be looking at 2-4mbit, which for interlaced footage is going to look like crap.

you are right, i decoded deinterlaced and it looked like crap in moving pictures- wonīt this happen with a "simple copy" that fits easyly on one dvd-r? the file to compress was about 5,2 gb large - i encoded to fit on one dvd-r. so there is no way to do it better?

Xfiles is a 4episode per disk and I encoded at half d1 6 to a dvd-r including part of the original menu using CCE and complete reauthoring. The av. bitrate was around 2200 and it didn't look that awfull. For a safety backup it was quite acceptable and fitted the whole series in 4 instead of 6 dvds.

Well I`m new to all this but this is how I`d do it.
Rip the disk using dvd-decripter
Load up TMPGEnc DVD Author and select all the vobs (by ifo)you need (it`s a really easy program for authoring), it`ll tell you how far over the limit you are.
Use dvd-shrink to shrink the vobs to the correct size
Load it all back into DVD Author, create you menus (does it all for you practically) and get it to author the disk.
This is assuming each episode has it`s own set of vobs?

can you keep all subtitles and audio tracks the way you suggest it? i think i would prefer cce to compress the video streams!

With dvd-shrink for compression you keep all the vobs intact (no steam stripping or conversion), I don`t really know how subtitles work but if they are just vob specific they should still work.
I shrank a dvd by 40% with dvd shrink and was really impressed with the results. Like I said before I`m new to all this and it`s just what I`ve picked up along the way.
DVD Author will write the vobs you supply to it so if they have multiple soundtracks I would guess they still would after being authored?
