Hey all... This is my first message as I usually find my answers in this forum. But actually, it is not a question but of an opinion from all you expert in this matter or those that took the time to try all the settings.

I was using TMPGENC for some time along with dvd2svcd but since I had problems with BIN/CUE files not being created fully, I switched with CCE 2.5 and the problem dissapeared. Don;t get me wrong I love TMPGENC which I use with downloaded movies to convert to mpeg-2 but now that CCE is part of the process for DVD2SVCD, I am wondering what settings is the best for the cost of time. CBR or multipass (2-3)? What do you guys think? Personally I don;t see much difference and CBR is quicker but any personal opinions/experience is greatly appreciated..

Thankx..cmlegend

Please be careful to follow forum rules. specifically #6

in regaurds to your main question. cbr is generally poor to use because there are bound to be scenes where either you are using too much bitrate (meaning a lower bitrate for that scene would have the same visual quality) and scenes where the bitrate used is too low (meanin it needs more bitrate than supplied and may be blocky, show mosquito noise) if you use max svcd bitrate (about 2750-audio) you ensure you never underbitrate (well sometimes even svcd max isnt enough) .. but you will overbitrate greatly. vbr makes sure the bitrate is applied where it is needed.. it steals from the low scenes and gives the the scenes that need bitrate more. d2sroba plugin might be worth a shot if speed/time is a concern. it does only a single pass in opv (quantizer *quality* based single pass vbr) and does a short pretest to insure you fill your disks.
